ABOUT USCafecito Pura Vida is a small family business which resulted from our father's dream of opening a coffeeshop focused on Costa Rican coffee. Coffee has always been part of our family’s tradition. In Costa Rica, it is customary for children start drinking this amazing beverage at a very young age. Our beloved Costa Rican grandmother, who played a significant role in our upbringing, introduced us to coffee at the age of four in the form of “café con leche”. Generally, it was enjoyed by dipping a piece of baguette in our coffee which is a common breakfast in Latin American - “café con pan.” Not only do we drink coffee in the morning, we drink it throughout the day and in the evening. Annual visits to Costa Rica were an opportunity to reconnect with our extended family, but also a chance to return home with 100% pure Costa Rican coffee not readily available in the states. Waking up to the wonderful aroma is truly a feeling of comfort in our home. As years passed and our generation grew older, one thing has remained the same: our love for coffee! When the opportunity presented itself for our family to start a small business importing coffee, we did not hesitate. Our mission is to share specialty Costa Rican coffee with our local community accompanied with a friendly smile. This mission includes not only sharing our coffee but also passing on our appreciation for life, love, happiness, and kindness which Costa Ricans refer to as “Pura Vida.” -Cafecito Pura Vida-ABOUT COSTA RICAN COFFEE There are two species of coffee grown around the world: Robusta and Arabica. Arabica plants are smaller in comparison to Robusta plants and produce less coffee beans per harvest. However, Arabica beans are of superior quality to Robusta beans. Arabica plants thrive in tropical climates which makes Costa Rica an ideal location for their cultivation. In 1982 the government issued an executive decree outlawing the production of Robusta coffee in the country. This move gave the Costa Rican coffee industry an advantage in the world market as it developed a worldwide reputation for quality coffee and sustainable practices.Coffee is not only important to those who enjoy it, but also to over 50,000 farming families who depend on its production for their livelihoods. Since 1933 and through Law No. 2762, the Costa Rican Coffee Institute (Spanish acronym ICAFE) has developed and overseen a transparent and ethical trade system between coffee producers, millers, roasters, and exporters. Through this system, producers receive approximately 80% of the price per 60-kilogram bag sold. Costa Rican coffee is produced under a well-funded social and economic commitment. This system of ethical trade and economic commitment is reflected in the high cost of Costa Rican coffee. Costa Rica's unique ecosystem provides our coffee with a robust, delicious flavor. Highlands, rich volcanic soils, and the unique tropical climate are all contributing factors to the quality. The Arabica beans are cultivated at altitudes of at least 5,000 feet above sea-level or higher and come from the coffee growing regions of Tarrazu and the West Valley, Costa Rica. Our coffee is hand-picked! This unique selection of and use of only red ripened coffee cherries yields a coffee with bold flavor, encompassing a medley of rich and unparalleled notes. Additionally, the beans are sorted manually to guarantee that only the best beans are used in the roasting process.LOCATION306 W. 2nd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012Business Hours: Monday – Friday 5:30 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. ................
