From the Principal

Welcome to November! After a busy start to the school year, we're settling into our new schedule, and I hope your family is feeling comfortable with the changes. As we launch into the second quarter, it's a great time to check your student's progress as well as give us some important feedback.

First quarter grades are now posted on Skyward. After viewing your student's grades, please contact teachers if desired; they'd welcome your email or voice mail. The main office staff can easily provide your Skyward login if needed.

We also value your feedback to learn what we are doing well and how we can continue to improve. Your participation in the district-wide survey by November 21 would be appreciated. You can access our school's survey at high, and our Access Code is bellinghamhigh. Another opportunity to share your feedback is the PTSA meeting on Tuesday, November 7, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Staff Lounge. Dr. Baker will attend, and I'll be available afterwards (7 to 8 p.m.) for informal conversation. We hope to hear your suggestions and ideas for our school.

Smarter Balanced (SBAC) Math testing for most 11th graders and some 12th graders begins Monday, November 6th. Students should check the Assessment Bulletin Board in the commons for test times and locations. Receiving a passing score on the SBAC Math exam is one of the requirements to receive a high school diploma in Washington state.

Please email your senior photo to BHS.yearbook@. It is not required to have a professional take your senior portrait. School pictures that were taken at the beginning of the school year can be used in our yearbook. Senior photo's submitted to the yearbook must be:

height, and 300 dpi preferred ? File format type JPEG or JPG

SENIOR PICTURE AND GRAD AD DEADLINES - November 27, 2017 - Deadline for

senior pictures. December 14, 2017 - Grad Ad Early Bird order deadline -- receive a $10 discount on your grad ad order if payment received by this date! February 3, 2018 - Grad Ad final order deadline... remember, space is limited so order soon!

For the next several weeks, Bellingham Public Schools will be surveying parents and guardians, along with students (grades 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11) and staff. Our district's strategic plan, The Bellingham Promise, guides our work and emphasizes our collective commitment to our children. We believe that all children should be loved and that every child can learn at high levels. We need your feedback on what we are doing well and what we can continue to improve.

If you have more than one child enrolled in the same school, please fill out one survey for each child, as your answers may vary. Your surveys will indicate which child's experience to consider as you answer the questions.

After-School Dinner Program Free for All Students 18 and Under

Bellingham Public Schools currently offers free hot dinner to all children 18 and under in the community. These meals are offered daily Mondays through Thursdays through June 6, 2018. Dinner is served from 5 to 6 p.m. at Shuksan Middle School, located at 2717 Alderwood Avenue (at the corner of Northwest and Alderwood). Please note: Accompanying adults are charged $4. All meals must be eaten onsite in the Shuksan cafeteria and to go options are not available. Dinner will not be served on the following Thursdays that are middle school early dismissal days: Nov. 2, 9, & 22 (Wed.), Dec. 7, Jan. 11, Feb. 8, March 8, April 26.
