What you need to know about Car Insurance and VolunteeringTo keep you and your young person safe we need to make sure you have the relevant insurance cover. Recently pressure has been put on Insurance companies to cover volunteering under Social, Domestic and Pleasure Cover. Some automatically cover you, however, some require that you inform them and it is noted on your policy. This will require you to phone your insurance company and either amend the policy or confirm by email they know you are volunteering. There are still some Insurance companies that will not cover you under Social, Domestic and Pleasure and require you to get Business Insurance. If you incur an additional cost we may be able to help reimburse or part reimburse the cost. You will need to raise this with your Coordinator. If you already have business insurance then you should be automatically covered. You can check online to see if your Insurance Company automatically includes volunteering in Social, Domestic and Pleasure use.Go to Association of British Insurers website: the page is a PDF document called Volunteer Driving that will tell you if you are automatically covered or not.Don’t worry if you are confused you can ask someone from the volunteering team to help you work out what you need to do.This is an ongoing safety measure and we will need to see a copy of your insurance documentation before you are matched and every time you renew or change your Insurance provider for whatever reason. We do this to keep you save and covered and we will be able to support you and try our best to answer any questions you may have. ................
