Car seats for babies and young

children have been around for

over 20 years. Even though car seats

have been around for a long time,

most parents still get confused

and frustrated when installing

their children¡¯s car seats.

2. Harness fit is important. Retainer clips

should be at armpit level. Straps

should be snug: you should not be

able to pinch any slack. Use lower

shoulder slots for rear facing car seats.

Use upper shoulder slots for forward

facing car seats.

3. Read the instructions that come with

your car seat. They will help you use

the car seat correctly.

The answer to this question comes in

three parts:

1. One that fits your child ¨C car seats

are designed for children of different

ages, weights and seated heights.

Always remember:

1. NEVER place a rear facing car seat in

front of an air bag! This can cause

death or severe injury! Babies need

to ride rear facing until at least 12

months of age AND must weigh

20 pounds. Both benchmarks need to

be in place before they can be turned

2. One that fits your car ¨C car seats fit

differently in many models of cars and

trucks. The shape of the vehicle seat,

the seat belt system and the size of

the car seat will affect how well the

car seat can be installed.

3. One that you will use correctly

ALL THE TIME ¨C car seats have many

different features. All car seats must

meet the same federal testing

standard. The most expensive car seat

may not be the best choice for you.

It is important to buy a car seat that

works best for you, your child and

your vehicle.

Used seats can have cracks, sun damage

or missing parts. The average life of a car

seat in Arizona is five years. Your child¡¯s

life is worth a new seat!

Car seats and seat belts that have been

involved in crashes NEED TO BE

REPLACED! Contact your insurance

company about replacing these items.

deben de tener el mismo criterio federal.

El asiento m¨¢s caro puede que no sea el

mejor para usted. Es importante comprar

un asiento que funcione para usted, su

hijo/a y su veh¨ªculo.

1. NUNCA coloque un asiento mirando

hacia atr¨¢s al frente de una bolsa de

aire porque podr¨ªa causar muerte o

lesiones serias. Los beb¨¦s necesitan

viajar viendo hacia atr¨¢s hasta que

tengan los 12 meses de edad y deben

de pesar 20 libras. Ambas situaciones

deben de cumplirse antes de que

puedan viajar viendo hacia adelante.

2. El ajuste de las fajas es importante. El clip

de retenci¨®n debe de ir a la altura de las

axilas. Las fajas tienen que ir ajustadas:

que no se pueda pellizcar nada flojo.

Use las ranuras bajas para los asientos

que miran hacia atr¨¢s. Use las ranuras m¨¢s

altas para los asientos que van viendo

hacia adelante.

3. Lea las instrucciones que trae el asiento,

le ayudar¨¢n a usar el asiento de

seguridad correctamente.

Estudie el manual del veh¨ªculo, le ayudar¨¢

a instalar correctamente el asiento en su

veh¨ªculo.
