available in our archives.

(a) Dear Editor:

The Mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom, does not have any

faults, alleged or otherwise, when it comes to immigration reform

and the defense of immigrants. The Irish Voice newspaper

printed a photo of our Mayor wearing a "Legalize the Irish" t-

shirt at a rally we had here in early February this year. San

Francisco has a long tradition of being a "Sanctuary City" and in

April 2006, Mayor Gavin Newsom was publicly quoted as saying "If

people think we were defiant on the gay marriage issue, they

haven't seen defiance" in relation to whether the City would

comply with the draconian measures proposed in H.R. 4437. The

Nazis were famous for blindly following orders, whether they were

moral or broken, and it is clear that it is the Mayor of San

Francisco who is thinking outside the box rather than blindly

accepting our immoral and broken immigration laws which do not

recognize the labor produced by workers without authorization who

are keeping this country afloat, growing our economy, and paying

into the social security system with their taxes taken out of

their unauthorized paychecks. Mr. Dobbs on the other hand appears

quite content with a system which allows no new workers even when

the Department of Labor itself says that unemployment less than

5% is the equivalent of full employment and that is where the US

is today (see 05/14/07 ID comment). Who exactly does Mr. Dobbs

think is going to pay for his social security retirement with the

US birth rate at record lows?

Susanna Bogue, Esq. San Francisco, CA

(b) Dear Editor:

Although a regular listener to Dobb's, I have no specific

knowledge of this event; however, I agree with Dobbs that the

illegal alien situation is out of control (see 05/14/07 ID

comment).

Andrew M. Parish, Esq. San Francisco, CA

(c) Dear Editor:

Lou Dobbs is possibly this country's no. 1 anti-illegal

immigration propagandist, and his daily vitriolic allegations

bear little relationship to reality (see 05/14/07 ID comment).

Now it turns out that in his mind, propaganda is any opinion

different from his. He has it exactly backward. Although I like

CNN and watch it a lot, the fact that it values ratings more than

journalistic ethics is disturbing to me. At least there is

comfort in knowing that according to a recent USA Today Gallup

poll, 78% of the population favors a guest worker program. That

leaves Dobbs as a loud, persistent but ineffective spokesman for

a 22% minority.

Sid Lachter, Esq.

(d) Dear Editor:

Contrary to Robert Yang's letter (5/14/07 ID), the US does

require minimum income requirements for sponsors, affidavits of

support, and ineligibility of legal immigrants for welfare for 5

years. Take at look at USCIS's website, Form I-864P for the

requirements (125% of the poverty level for family size,

including the sponsored immigrant and any other immigrants

sponsored, except for 100% of the poverty level for US

servicemembers sponsoring spouses and minor children). Look at

Form I-864, the Affidavit of Support, and its instructions, for

the legal binding commitment enforceable in a court of law made

by sponsors. The railing against "chain immigration" as an

invidious term for family immigration is just restrictionist

propaganda to support their goal of fewer immigrants. The worst

thing about the current family immigration system is how backed

up all the quota categories are, which is visible to anyone who

wants to check the monthly State Department Visa Bulletin (found

every month on ). The second-worst thing about the

current family immigration system is that parents of US citizens

are not eligible to bring their minor children with them, but

must petition for them after they arrive and wait for either

naturalization or their place in the quota line (backed up 5

years) to become current.

Eleanor Kaplan Adams, Esq.

(e) Dear Editor:

ID's comment (05/04/07 ID) pointed out that Lou Dobbs had called

the mayor of San Francisco a "Nazi" and that he hadn't offered an

apology. Looks like a double standard to me; ID and those of a

like mind feel free to call Lou and the rest of us who oppose

illegal immigration and wish to reduce legal immigration

"racists", "anti-immigrationists" (as they did in their

comments), xenophobes, etc. I listen to Lou Dobbs faithfully, as

I am now, and have never heard him say that he's opposed to legal

immigration. I don't know whether or not the mayor is a "Nazi",

but ID should refrain from inaccurate labels if they find them

offensive.

jhf Baileyville, ME

(f) Dear Editor:

I would like you to know that the day I heard about [the Lou

Dobbs] incident (see 05/14/07 ID comment), I immediately sent an

email to CNN asking them to fire him. Never heard even a word

back (see 05/14/07 ID comment).

Catherine M. Kiely

(g) Dear Editor:

In my opinion the statements that people make, especially the

statements that produce the most emotional reactions, are merely

projections-- projections that are reflected from the speaker and

from the reactive society (see 05/14/07 ID comment). Mr

Dobbs is fully aware that to compare an organization's support of

'illegal aliens and -or-immigrants would produce exactly the

reaction that it did. That reaction is outrage and is rooted in

the realization that Hitler's Nazism was an avatar that could be

triggered at any given time to exploit fear by displacing the

real issue at hand- human beings currently labeled 'immigrants'

and 'illegals that are being treated in a way that is reminiscent

of the Nazism. The truth of the matter is America is not the only

country with 'immigrants' at the borders. Immigrants are not the

problem. The problem has everything to do with money and

absolutely nothing to do with terrorism. The truth is, Americans

like Lou Dobbs fuel the terror propaganda that is currently

legitimizing the public resurfacing of the KKK. In the mean time

immigrants have become chattel in the minds of the Dobbs Clan and

his 'house slaves'. An apology should be given by Dobbs, not his

representatives. This is called personal responsibility. Writers

seem to be afraid to isolate the real forces behind Dobbs' words.

The actual problems are not being addressed, but rather masked as

an immigration crisis. Does anyone feel uncomfortable knowing

that the 'New Revised Patriot Act' is not readable by the public

because it is considered a violation of national security? Is the

entire public considered to be a national threat? This question

and its answers are much more about the reality of the state of

America than the problems at the borders. Nazism? Who does Dobbs

represent?

Constance A.

(h) Dear Editor:

Don't hold your breath until you hear from Dobbs or from CNN (see

05/14/07 ID comment). I have taken them to task several times

with nothing from them. They have a screening policy when you log

on - did you notice? - they ask if you are positive or negative.

If you are in the last group I think the system dumps you

statement even before it is read. Last week a reporter took him

to task in a personal interview over his statement about leprosy

and his statement that is being brought in my immigrants. You

remember that one - 7,000 cases in 3 years was his statement and

the reporter told him that wasn't true - that here hasn't been 30

cases in 30 years. Dobbs response was that it has to be true

because he put it on the air - he said we never make statements

that aren't true. That is the way he is - now he has rode

immigrants' backs to where he is. what can you say if the network

won't do anything about it?

Morris R. Roberts
