Removal & Installation

Oil pan removal and installation is best done with the engine out of the vehicle and mounted in a suitable engine stand.

1. Drain the engine oil.

2. Remove the oil pan side bolts.

3. Remove the oil pan flange bolts.

4. Remove the oil pan.

5. Remove the oil pan gasket.

1. Clean the oil pan and engine block gasket surfaces.

2. Apply sealer GM P/N 12378521, (Canadian P/N 88901148) or the equivalent to both sides of the crankshaft rear main bearing cap (1). Press the sealer into the gaps using a putty knife.

3. Install the oil pan gasket.

4. Install the oil pan.

5. Install the oil pan flange bolts. Tighten the oil pan bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

6. Install the oil pan side bolts. Tighten the oil pan side bolts to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).

7. Install the oil pan drain plug. Tighten the oil pan drain to 8 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
