Session Background

Technology has become a part of our everyday lives. As Lions, technology allows us to be a truly global association, giving us the ability to communicate and collaborate across continents and oceans, to share resources and streamline processes to make tasks easier and more efficient, and to train Lions worldwide with a few clicks of a mouse and an Internet connection.

Lions Clubs International utilizes technology and web-based resources in a variety of ways, and second vice district governors play an important role in the promotion of these tools and resources to the clubs and members within the district. The fulfillment of this role will increase task efficiency and accuracy of record keeping at the club level; allow clubs to be more self-sufficient; provide them with access to a multitude of resources and training materials as a means of increasing productivity, effectiveness, and organization; and enhance the ability of clubs to promote themselves within their communities.

Session Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Recognize the role of the second vice district governor in promoting the use of web-based resources to clubs

• Support the use of online reporting

• Identify web-based LCI resources to support clubs and members

• Promote the use of technology among members and clubs within the district

Using Technology

Technology is a useful tool that can serve Lions in a variety of ways.

Technology can be used to:

• Obtain information about upcoming Lions events, service projects, initiatives, and programs

• Purchase club supplies

• File membership, club officer, and service activity reports

• Develop leaders via training resources at the club and district levels

• Promote clubs, both to club members and to the surrounding communities, using PR tools/resources, social networking, and e-Clubhouse

• Communicate and share resources, ideas, and best practices among members

Benefits of Using Technology

There are several benefits of promoting the use of web-based technology and resources to clubs and members.

Benefits include:

• Tasks can be completed more efficiently

• Clubs and members become more self-sufficient

• Record-keeping is more accurate and is easier to track and reference

• Increased communication and sharing of information

• Access to resources and training to increase productivity, effectiveness, and organization

• Provides an enhanced ability to promote clubs within their communities

Online Reporting - MyLCI

What is MyLCI?

MyLCI allows club officers to complete a variety of tasks associated with club administration online. Functions include submitting monthly membership reports, club service activity reports, and viewing monthly statements. Club secretaries can report new club officers, and club treasurers can view monthly statements and semi-annual invoices, and can pay current balances.

To access MyLCI:

4. Users will be asked to enter their username and password to access information.

5. If you are a new user, you can register for a password from the login screen.

Promoting Lionism is one of the major ways we recruit new members into our ever-growing organization. Lions Clubs International offers a multitude of tools and resources online for promoting Lions clubs within our communities.

Global Leadership Team (GLT)

The GLT pages provide information on general GLT operations, structure, and activities, while also providing resources for GLT members at the district and mutiple district levels.

Training Materials/Resources

This section provides a variety of curriculum materials for training programs, presentations that can be used for speaking engagements or self-study, tutorials, activity guides, and other resources to be used for leadership development.

Leadership Communication

Leadership Communication is focused on increasing the success of Lions in leadership roles. Communication includes the quarterly Leader Network e-Newsletter, audio podcasts, and Lions leadership success stories.

Lions Learning Center (LLC)

The LLC provides Lions with the opportunity to develop leadership skills through online learning experiences. Courses are categorized by four key skills: Leadership, Managing Others, Achieving Results and Communication. Course topics include: Creativity, Promoting Innovation, Coaching, Conflict Resolution, Effective Teams, Decision Making, Mentoring, and Public Relations. Development Programs

This section includes information and resources about leadership development opportunities for current and future leaders such as: Senior Lions Leadership Institutes, Faculty Development Institutes, the District Governors-Elect Seminar, and funding for Multiple District Leadership Development. This section also includes webinars, which are virtual training sessions. For those unfamiliar with webinars, this section offers a tutorial on how to be a webinar participant.

Club President Jane posts an event to her club’s Facebook page. The event is an upcoming fundraising carnvial, and to generate community support she wants to publicize it as much as possible.

Club tail twister Tom posts information about the carnival on his personal Facebook page, along with a YouTube video from last year’s event.

Club treasurer Jerry sees Jane’s post. Lion Jerry is also the town’s mayor, and a lot of community members follow him on Twitter. He reposts the event to his Twitter account.

Susan, a small business owner, sees Jerry’s tweet. As a sponsor of the carnival, she posts a flyer for the event in her store, encouraging customers to attend.

Lion Tom’s sister, Mary, sees Tom’s post and decides to bring her husband and 2 children to the carnival to support Tom and to learn more about Lions.

Club member John adds pictures from last year’s event to the club’s Flickr page and shares the link with friends on Facebook and Twitter.

Club member Tina reposts the event information on her personal Facebook page.

3 customers see the flyer and will attend the Lions event.

2 of Tina’s friends respond to the post that they will be attending.
