“Shining star talent search”

THE HUNT FOR THE TRI-STATE’S BEST STUDENT SINGER IS ON!

$7,500 goes to winning school!

(New York, NY – September 8, 2010) News Talk Radio 710, WOR has announced that its sixth annual Shining Star Talent Search is underway, continuing the station’s long-time support for the arts and educational systems. One lucky student will have the opportunity to win $1,500 and bring home to his or her school an additional $7,500!

WOR’s Shining Star Talent Search invites students in grades 7-12 to record a musical piece and submit their final recording to the station by Friday, October 1, 2010.  On-air and in-school promotion of WOR’s Shining Star Talent Search has begun, with entries already beginning to come in to the station’s Lower Manhattan studios.

All entries will be judged by WOR’s talk hosts and staff. The top 15 finalists will have their entries played by Joe Bartlett on The WOR Saturday Morning Show on Saturday, October 16, 2010.  The top 4 finalists will be announced on The John Gambling Show on Monday, October 18, 2010, and all listeners will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite singer via phone or on the web. The winners and runners-up will be announced on The John Gambling Show on Thursday, October 21.

Cash prizes for the finalists are: 4th place ($250), 3rd Place ($500), 2nd Place ($750) and WOR’s Shining Star ($1,500).  The Shining Star winner will also receive $7500 for their school!

WOR Radio’s Shining Star Talent Search has often been used as an entertaining and educational class project, and it is a wonderful opportunity for talented students to show off their voices to WOR Radio listeners and music industry professionals.

Buckley Broadcasting Corporation, the parent of WOR, has long been an advocate of arts education in the tri-state area, and continues that commitment with this year’s competition, despite many other media companies having curtailed similar outreaches.

Jerry Crowley, Vice President and General Manager of WOR, said, “The response to our Shining Star Talent Search has always been overwhelming, and we are looking forward to hearing all of this year’s entries in the weeks ahead.”
