ROLE OF A CHEERLEADERThe West Briar Cheerleading team is an organization of school leaders with high standards. The team’s mission is to promote a group of young ladies who strive for perfection in cheerleading, as well as high academic achievement and high moral standards. Through this organization my wish is that every cheerleader will grow into a mature, confident, and independent young lady. The reason for structure and rules is to create an organization that can represent West Briar Middle School and the Houston Independent School District well and to better the student as a person so that they can move forward in life with useful skills.?As a cheerLEADER, you have taken on the responsibility of being a role model for your peers. A good role model is someone whose positive behavior is imitated by others. Good role models show?respect and self-discipline. A cheerleader must be a lady at all times.A cheerleader must be willing to abide all rules and follow directions.A cheerleader must take accountability and corrections.A cheerleader must be present and on time for all practices and games, absences affect the whole team.A cheerleader must be dedicated and prepared. The team is only as strong as its weakest member.A cheerleader must show respect to herself, coach, team members, parents and teachers at all times.A cheerleader must set a good example for the team and herself at all times – both in and outside of school.A cheerleader must spend time with all teammates to get to know everyone.A cheerleader must lift her team members up, support one another, work together, and look out for each other.A cheerleader must understand that any decision made by the coach/administration is in the best interest of the team and its members.Teacher recommendations are calculated into your tryout score. Your character and behavior in class and on campus is a factor of making team. Students with poor teacher recommendation from multiple teachers will not be considered for the cheer team.SEASONS OF CHEERAll cheerleaders are required to participate in ALL activities in which the organization is involved, be it performance, fund-raising, or school or community events. Before school, after school, and summer practice sessions are required. Time specifications for these will be established as camp dates and other school schedules become available to the coach. Be present and on time for all practices and performances, absences affect the whole team. Personal business, traffic, lack of a ride, etc. are not acceptable excuses for late arrival, early dismissal, or absences. Parents are required to be active in the Cheerleading Team Organization and must help with fundraising and volunteer work throughout the yearSummer Practice (August 2020)Currently, there are no plans for summer camp due to Covid-19. This is an all-day event starting with a practice at the Toyota Center prior to the game at night. As you can see, cheerleading is a full year commitment. If you, or your daughter, feel that she cannot meet these expectations, she should not participate in the tryout. It is an honor to be selected as a cheerleader. It requires enthusiasm and dedication not only from the girls but from the parents as well. The team can be the best only if it has your support. I hope each of you will be willing to give your support to your daughter and the team as these girls prepare for a successful year.Next year there will be a new cheer sponsor.
