Once aga in the Mediterranea n Die t is in the ne ws for its health prom oting properties. Not only is this die t promoted for its "heart healthy" be nefits, it is als o s old to the public as the bes t way to achieve and to maintain a hea lthy body weight. However, I have come to the oppos ite conclus ion.

In order to provide proof beyond any reas onable doubt of the culpability of die t, I have put this ta ble toge ther s howing the incidence of obes ity compared to fat intake in various countries worldwide. (I have hig hlig hte d the countries of Southeast and Eas t As ia in green and the Mediterranea n countries in yellow. The few countries in these regions tha t have become wes ternized are highlighted in blue.)
