Initial Call

Question: Who was Jesus?

Biblical passage: Mt 16:16 - Simon Peter answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Link Question: Why did Jesus die?

Jim (Publisher): My name is Jim. May I ask yours?

George (H/H): George

Jim (Publisher): Good to meet you George. It’s a beautiful day we’re having, isn’t it?

George (H/H): You got that right.

Jim (Publisher): Today I’ve been discussing with person the identity of Jesus Christ. What are your thoughts about Jesus?

George (H/H): I think he was a good man.

Jim (Publisher): He certainly was. In fact, he was the greatest man who ever lived. The Bible identifies him as being much more than that. Consider what we read here at Matthew Chapter 16:16. Jesus has just asked his disciples who they believed he is. Notice their response. Simon Peter answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” So, according to this verse, was Jesus just a good man or more?

George (H/H): More. It says he was the son of god.

Jim (Publisher): That’s right. Of course, we might wonder since Jesus is the Son of God and a perfect son at that why did he die? Maybe we can discuss the Bible’s answer the next time we talk.

Jim (H/H): Yes, I’d like that.

First Return Visit

Question: Why did Jesus die?

Scripture: : Mt 20:28 “Just as the Son of man came, not to be ministered to, but to minister and to give his life as a ransom in exchange for many.”

Link: How can we show our appreciation for Jesus’ ransom sacrifice?

Jim (Publisher): The last time we spoke I left you with question why did Jesus die. How would you answer that question?

George (H/H): I’ve been thinking about it. I don’t really know.

Jim (Publisher): That’s okay. It’s a question that has puzzled a lot of people throughout history. Thankfully, the Bible can help us find the answer. Notice what it says here at Matthew Chapter 20:28. Would you like to read that out loud?

George (H/H): Sure. “Just as the Son of man came, not to be ministered to, but to minister and to give his life as a ransom in exchange for many.”

Jim (Publisher): Thank you. Looking at the end of the verse do you notice the reason Jesus gave his life?

George (H/H): As a ransom?

Jim (Publisher): Exactly. Jesus gave his life to buy back the lives of others and not just a few but many. Really Jesus gave his life for everyone who sincerely wants to benefit from that sacrifice, including you and me. He also taught us how we can show our appreciation for it. Let’s consider what he says about that the next time I’m here.

George (H/H): That sounds great.

SECOND RETURN VISIT

Question: How can we show our appreciation for Jesus’ ransom sacrifice?

Scripture: Joh 17:3 “This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ).”

Link: What happens at meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses

Jim (Publisher): So how can we show our appreciation for Jesus sacrificial death?

George (H/H): I guess by thanking God for it.

Jim (Publisher): That’s an excellent way. And Jesus taught us another thing we should do. In fact, he taught that this is essential if we are to gain life through his sacrifice. It’s found here at John 17:3. Notice what he said in prayer to his Heavenly Father: “This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ).”

According to this, if we want to gain everlasting life, what must we do?

George (H/H): Learn about God

Jim (Publisher): Yes. And learn about his Son Jesus Christ. One way I enjoy doing that is by attending meetings of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Have you ever been to one of our meetings?

George (H/H): No I haven’t.

Jim (Publisher): This short video will give you glimpse of what is is like. (VIDEO plays)

George (H/H): Ummm. No collections are ever taken. That’s different than the church I’ve attended in the past. Where do you meet?

Jim (Publisher): Here’s the address and meeting schedule. Would you like to come to our next meeting?
