Say: Who can tell me what this is?” Let kids answer. “That’s right! It’s a lollipop but not just any lollipop–it’s a Tootsie Roll Pop. That means the outside is hard,” tap it on the cutting board so kids can hear it,” but the inside is soft and chewy. I love this kind of lollipop! There’s only one problem–to get to the soft insides, the delicious Tootsie Roll, you have to remove this hard shell. This reminded me of a….you guessed it! A bible verse! Let’s read Ezekiel 36:26 together. Turn there now and when you get there say, ‘I want a soft heart!”After you’ve read the verse talk about it. “God promises to give us a new heart–a soft heart because sometimes our hearts get hard. What makes our hearts hard? Do you know?” Let kids answer but provide these answer too: When people hurt our feelings, our hearts can harden. When we repeat the same sin over and over again–that can make our hearts hard. When we step away from God, that can make our hearts hard.No matter how hard our hearts get, God can soften them. As a matter of fact, he promises he will. Let’s look inside this Tootsie Roll and take a peek at the soft part. You want to see it?” Place the pop on the cutting board. Smack it with a mallet and show the kids the inside of the sucker.“See? That’s the soft part but I promise God won’t whack you. He has a special way of softening a heart. Today we want to learn about God’s love for us. Let’s pray for God to soften our hearts so we can really hear his message for us. Lead kids in prayer. God’s Conversation Hearts:Greet the children and open the lesson by asking what Valentine’s Day is, and what it means to them.? Accept whatever answers they have then explain that God also loves them and that God’s love for them exceeds any other time type of love.Biblical Evidence: Display and read Jeremiah 31:33.? Say,?As Christians, we are God’s people.? As His people what does He want for us??Allow responses. Help them understand that God wants to put His law on our hearts and minds.??What is God’s law??The Bible.?How can we write His law, the Bible, on our hearts??By reading the Bible, learning verses, talking to God.Hold up a box of Conversation Heart candies and ask if the class knows what they are.? Explain that these are messages that you can give to the people that you love on Valentine’s Day.? Ask,?What do you think that God would write on conversation hearts if He were to write them to us??Allow them to answer.? Now say,?The Bible is full of promises from God to us.? Preschool: My favorite of these promises is found in Romans chapter 8 verse 39. (Open the Bible). Read the verse and explain that nothing we do nor no one could ever separate us from God’s love. God loves us NO MATTER WHAT. Today we are going to make a heart with stretchy arms to remind us that God loves us SOOOO much that nothing we do could ever make Him stop loving us. Midtown/Milgen: There are so many places in God’s word where we are told of his great love for us. Let’s look at a few of these promises to see how God loves us.?Break the class up in to three different groups.? Each group will be given two Bible verses to look up and then explain/read to the class.? Write each of the Bible references on paper construction hearts and then give them to the class.? Give the groups 5-10 minutes to find their Bible verses and figure out what they mean.?Small Group Activities:Midtown/MilgenConversation Heart Craft:??Create a box of Bible verse conversation hearts.? You can have the class write the 6 verses listed above on paper hearts cut out of construction paper.? If you don’t think your class can handle writing the verses, you can type them before hand and then give copies of each verse to each student and they can cut out the paper hearts and glue the verses onto the hearts.? Give each child an envelope, which will serve as the conversation heart box.? They can keep these as a list of Bible verses that shows God’s love for them.Preschool: Red paper?(or another color of your choice)White cardstockGoogly eyesBlack markerScissorsGlueHeart craft punch?(optional)Hearts templateSUPPLIESRed paper?(or another color of your choice)White cardstockGoogly eyesBlack markerScissorsGlueHeart craft punch?(optional)Hearts templateDIRECTIONS1. To get started, get all your pieces ready. You can download and print template provided above for the hearts or make your own. We found it easier to use our heart craft punch for the smaller hearts as they were too small for our preschooler to cut out with her scissors. You could also use heart foam stickers. For the Heart Man you will need:One large heartFour small hearts of equal sizeFour strips of white paper (2 long for the legs and 2 short for the arms)2. Once you have your pieces ready, fold the white strips of paper like an accordion. Glue the two legs to the bottom of the big heart and the two arms near the middle of the heart.3. Glue small hearts on the ends of the arms and legs.4. Create a face for your heart man. We glued two googly eyes and drew a mouth on the large heart to make a face for our heart man craft. If you don’t have googly eyes, you could draw on eyes or make eyes from the white paper. ................
