MEMORANDUMTO: All Caregivers – Santa Rosa Memorial HospitalFROM: Forrest Marrero, Regional Security Director, SJH Northern California DATE: January 31, 2020SUBJECT: Parking and security update___________________________________________________________________________________________Per the information provided below, I wanted to update you on changes to security and parking at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. As some of you may be aware, we’ve recently experienced an increase in combative patient behavior involving caregivers and security at Memorial. To ensure patient and caregiver safety during such events, 1 Center and 2 East had been previously designated as units for behavioral patients. A constant security presence on 1C and 2E was implemented in order to provide a quick response in the event of a combative patient. Additionally, an access control officer has been designated to 1C to observe patients for signs of aggressive behavior and make certain caregivers are working in a safe environment. As soon as direct observation is no longer needed on 1C, the East wing access control podium will once again be manned. As always, the safety of our patients and caregivers is our highest priority and we expect the modifications in security presence will support a safe work environment. In regard to parking coverage at Memorial, we have determined that the biggest parking issue in recent months is the 121 patient lot. Patient parking has been compromised due to unauthorized caregiver parking. The parking coverage from Security has been temporarily reallocated to this lot so that this issue can be addressed, and we can ensure enough parking opportunities for our patients and visitors. The parking coverage, which remains 0600-0900 Monday-Friday, entails a security guard blocking off one of the two entrances to the 121 patient lot and manning the other entrance. The security guard will now stop vehicles attempting to enter the lot. If they are a caregiver, they will park in the back of 151, or along the fence line. If they are a patient, they can occupy the lot. This has helped tremendously in our efforts to prevent unauthorized caregiver and construction worker parking and ensure enough parking opportunities for our patients and visitors.?Lastly, the 1E entrance is on a timer to open at 6AM and lock at 8PM.? Outside of these hours, caregivers would only be able to enter via badge.? Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions about any of security or parking issues. Thank you for your understanding and collaboration. ................
