Factors That Affect Biogeochemical Cycles Instructions for computer:This assignment will be submitted through Flipgrid. The link to access Flipgrid is . Here you can watch the sample video I posted to get an idea of what I am looking for as a response. The criteria for the assignment are listed on the Flipgrid page and also on page 2 of this document. Click “Record a Response”. You will then select “Join with Microsoft”. You will be asked to pick an account to login. Select your school email “……..@smail.pembinatrails.ca”. Once you login, you will be able to record your response. Just click on the recorder icon, which is a red circle with a white coloured recorder, and begin to record your answer. Once you have recorded, you can edit the video if need be, and then upload the video. Be sure to type your name on the final step before submitting your response. Instructions for phone: Download the Flipgrid app from the App store.Once in the app, you will see a page that says “Tell us about yourself”. Click Student.Enter Join Code – e5c78f62. Click “Go”. Assignment Criteria:Research one natural or human activity that disturbs a biogeochemical cycle and discuss how it disturbs the cycle. Example: Eutrophication in lake caused by fertilizer runoff increases the nitrogen (in the form of nitrate) levels in the water. Criteria: Make a video approximately 2-5 minutes in length. (1 mark)Introduce yourself and what you researched. (1 mark)Identify if the factor that affects the biogeochemical cycle is natural or human-induced. (1 mark)Discuss the way in which what you researched disturbs one of the biogeochemical cycles, and what the possible affects this disturbance can have on a particular ecosystem. Example of possible affects: Eutrophication affects the nitrogen cycle by increasing the amount of nitrogen in bodies of water. Fertilizer runoff into a lake causes excess nitrogen (in the form of nitrates) in the water, creating algal blooms that block sunlight from reaching the bottom of the lake, killing phytoplankton and thus fish along the food chain. Additionally, when the algae die and are decomposed, O2 in the water is used up, reducing the available O2 required by fish, resulting in death of fish. (2 marks)Explain one method that can be done to help try and rebalance the biogeochemical cycle within an ecosystem. Example: Farmers can control or reduce the amount of fertilizer applied to fields.
