Students must be prepared to understand what the changes mean for the future. Therefore, the goal of this Biology course is not to just memorize facts, but to understand and apply these facts. Class Procedures/ExpectationsStudents are expected to: come to class every day you are able.arrive on time with your own supplies and be ready to participate. ask for help, attend tutoring when needed.remain on task during all times, follow directions the first time given.be respectful and courteous to the teacher and to each other at all times.Students need to keep an organized spiral notebook. This notebook will be your lifeline this year because it will contain all notes and assignments. If you lose your notebook, you will have to start a new one and re-do the assignments, etc. that you lost if you want a good grade on your notebook. You are expected to bring your notebook to class with you every day. Students will be expected to develop good note taking skills. The students will be learning how to take Cornell style notes, write study questions & summaries.HOMEWORK: Before the next class, students are expected to have completed the following: review & complete Cornell notes questions & summary, HW assignments, and complete lab analysis.ELECTRONIC DEVICES: Electronic devices are intended for educational purposes only. Phones, ipads, etc will be confiscated if they are used inappropriately and will need to be picked up by the parent from an administrator. MAKE-UP WORK POLICY: Students are expected to complete make-up work in a timely manner—one day for every day absent. If you are absent the day as assignment is due, then you must turn it in the day you return or it is late (20% deduction). Make-up work resulting from an unexcused absence will result in a 20% deduction. It is your responsibility to schedule make up assignments in a timely manner. To make-up a test, quiz, or lab you will need to make arrangements with Mrs. Rodriguez to come in before/after school.LATE WORK POLICY: This is a pre-AP class and you should NOT be turning work in late. You are expected to adhere to Late Work Guidelines and Forms located in the classroom. Late work will NOT be accepted after the unit test or 3-week grading period. Homework turned in after the teacher collects it will be counted late.TARDY POLICY: Students must be seated in their assigned seat before the bell rings to be considered on-time. Students not in their assigned seat will be marked as late. Students arriving late 6 minutes or more will be marked absent, per district policy. Consequences for tardiness will be based on the Reagan Tardy Policy. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Students found to have engaged in academic dishonesty of any kind are subject to grade penalties on assignments or tests and disciplinary penalties in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes cheating or copying the work of another student, plagiarism and unauthorized communication between students before during or after an exam, including outside of class with students who have not yet tested or turned in work. Students should NEVER be in possession of another student’s work, either physically or electronically.If you are struggling academically or personally, please communicate this to me immediately so that I can help. I encourage you to be an advocate for your learning and participate in tutoring when necessary. Tutoring:I am available for tutoring each morning (except Wednesday) from 8:10 - 8:40 am in RI 247 and am available after school from 4:15-4:45 (except Friday).
