___________

Note: This list of 95 women judges and lawyers complements an earlier one of 6 January 1983, naming 37 women from 28countries, bringing the total to some 130. One judge named in the 1983 list, Bertha Wilson of Canada, was subsequently appointed a Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), also in The Hague: the PCA national groups are the principal professional source of nominations to the International Court, prior to their election by the UN General Assembly. Thus, some of the able women named here might earlier or more apprpriately be appointed to the Permanent Court, or to the UN's own International Law Commission which, like the International Court, has never had a woman member.
