2011Annual Training Conference

Blacks In Government, Great Lakes Midwest Region V will host its Annual Regional Training Conference on June 24, 2011 at Greektown Hotel in Detroit, Michigan. This year’s conference theme, “Explore and Navigate Your Journey to Success”. The conference offers training tracks in project management, effective communications, leadership and career planning. Our goal is to offer exceptional high quality training at a very reasonable cost.

To register for the conference, return completed registration form along with a form of payment to Region V, Blacks In Government, P.O. Box 33518 Wright-Patterson, AFB Dayton, OH 45433-0684 no later than June 11, 2011. On-site requires RSVP to Ms. Karen D. Bryant by telephone (937) 257-5323 or by email Karen.bryant@wpafb.af.mil no later than June 17, 2011. Please include with your registration form any meals restrictions, interpreter requirements, or if any special audiovisual requirements. Payment is accepted by check, money order or training form. Registration cost, which includes lunch and an afternoon snacks is $65.00 for members and $75.00 for non-members of BIG if paid by June 11, 2011. An on-site registration, which will be limited, is $85.00.

2011 Training Conference Workshop Topics

Project Management for Non-Project Managers

Presenter – Dr. Alessia Payne

This course will provide an overview of the basics of project management. This course will define project management, explain the roles and responsibilities when participating on a project team, explain the importance tracking, controlling, reporting, and as well as project closure.

 Effective Communication/Briefing Techniques

Presenter – Mr. Kevin Perkins, MBA, MA, (SPHR)

The workshop is designed to emphasize the importance of organizing thoughts, using the right words at the right time, and employing effective delivery techniques to connect with your audience. It will present pitfalls and offer pearls to enhance speaking or briefing skills whether talking to 3 to 3,000 people. An interactive component includes an opportunity for attendees to develop and present a 0 second “elevator” brief with immediate feedback.

Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace

Presenter – Dr. Keesha Karriem

This will be a panel discussion of government leaders that will explain what it took to achieve their level of success in Federal, State and Local government. What education was needed, patience, the pitfalls, contacts and whether their journey to success has been achieved. Participants will be able to ask questions of panel members.

Life After Retirement and Other Financial Planning
