Membership is voluntary. We are located at 6835 HWY N, Sun Prairie, WI 53590-9431.At the turn of the year we meditate on endings and beginnings, knowing that all the world’s time begins and ends in God. We watch and keep vigil for the coming of God’s justice.Town Hall Meetings to Take Place January and February, 2020The foundation begins to be laid by first naming where we are as a synod, and, from that, what kind of leadership skills we need to seek in the next person to serve as our bishop. This is fundamental to a good call process in any congregation and just as fundamental for us as a synod. We encourage broad participation in this step. We will center on two descriptions: (a) this synod – its strengths and challenges, what makes it unique, what is it facing at this moment in history; and, from that snapshot, (b) the skills and characteristics that would serve us well in the person of the next bishop. That emerging “bishop profile” will be the lens through which further consideration of potential nominees will happen. I will have a team of scribes to gather the observations of all who attend. They will then condense what has emerged from those meetings into a profile of the synod, and a profile of the bishop we seek.We suggest that those who will ultimately be present to represent your congregation in the assembly that will vote for the next bishop would be logical attendees. But these meetings are not legislative, and any interested members of our congregations are welcome to come.Below is the schedule of Town Hall Meetings. No registration is necessary. Ideally, we would like you to attend the conference in which your church is assigned. Links to bulletin inserts that may be shared in congregations and other information is located to the right. Please join us at any of these forums to give voice to conversations on the strengths and challenges of this synod and what we need in a bishop.Forums are approximately 90 minutes in length. Thanks to the support and generosity of our Bristol community and the community at large, we were able to donate money to several charitable organizations. In addition to money, this group also provides quilts, school kits, and health kits to people near and far. Anyone can join the quilters on Tuesday mornings when they start up again after the holidays. We're looking forward to 2020 with the Salad Luncheon and Bake Sale the first Saturday in May and the Norwegian Specialty Food Sale the first Saturday in October. Contact Kathy Thorstad at 837-7020 if you want to get involved.Treasurer’s Budget Notes for 2020Our fiscal indicators for October and November were: OctoberNovemberPercent of Budget Received YTD84%83%Checkbook Balance at end of month -$2,054.54-$2,899.31These numbers are disappointing, but we hope for Year End Giving to bring us up for the year and give us a positive start for 2020!Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!!Outreach CommitteeThank you to everyone who joined us for caroling on Sunday, December 8th. It was a busy, yet rewarding day. Stewardship CommitteeDue to unforeseeable circumstances, our Stewardship Committee was unable to meet in November and December. However, the committee collected time and talent sheets, and encouraged the congregation to consider giving and donations for the annual budget. The committee also worked with Outreach Committee to update the church directory. New directories will be available sometime in January, 2020. Anyone who had their pictures taken at church, or provided a new picture for the directory will receive a free directory. The cost of directories for all others is $6. Please let Karen Kane know if you'd like a new directory. As a reminder, the directory will now include email addresses, and more than one phone number if we received your permission to publish the information. Worship Committeemeets after worship on the 1st Sunday of the mittee members: Pastor Tim Knipfer, Marilyn Betlach, Linda Campbell, Melissa Curry (Council Liaison),Gina Jorgenson (Director of Music Ministry), Kim Han (recording sec.), Marsha Schwanke, Emme Thorpe, & Cyndi Voeck (Chair)CHILDREN & COMMUNION - At the Worship & Music Com. meeting on 11/3, the topic of HOW we serve children communion came up. Some servers have been steering children to the grape juice when they reach for the wine. It’s a very awkward thing for the children as they don’t know why this is happening. They wonder if the wine is only for adults or if the wine is somehow more special than the juice. This is a decision that should rest with the parent and the child. If a parent doesn’t want their child to take the wine, they will handle it. It’s not the decision of the communion server. Thank you for your understanding.SOUND SYSTEM – If anyone is interested in doing adjustments on the sound system for our worship services, we’d welcome some extra hands. Please don’t let the visual of the soundboard intimidate you. A majority of those knobs make no difference with our speaker system! That being said, your commitment would include showing up by 8:40 for sound checks (mainly the Assisting Minister’s microphone) and being nearby to make any adjustments during the service. Please contact Cyndi Voeck if interested.MERRY CHRISTMAS! Hope 2020 brings you joy!Make a JOYFUL noise unto the Lord! SERVE the Lord with GLADNESS! Come before his presence with SINGING!!!Cyndi Voeck, W & M ChairPipe Organ ProgressWork on the installation of the pipe organ was slow going this month due to the holidays and illnesses that have gone around. Work has been proceding but at a slow pace. The long metal pipes that set in front of the swell (the swell is the center part of the organ that has the louvers that open and close to swell the sound or dampen the sound) have their bottom ends supported by a wooden shelf with holes drilled into it. Since this organ is being reconfigured from what it had been for this installation a new shelf needed to be made. The right hand sid of the shelf was marked and drilled this past week. The attached three pictures show the locations market out; the holes drilled and chambered; and the dotted holes stained. Drilled, Marked, Stained PicturesArchive CommitteeUsing the instructions for congregational archivists published by the ELCA, Deborah Waelti-Keller and Alice Zweifel on November 19, 2019, met to evaluate what had already been accomplished and what additional items from that list need yet to be found and put into fireproof storage. We are thankful that Karen Kane retrieved from the church computer a few items for which no paper copy was previously saved. Arlene Skrenes, using her home computer, continues to scan and add to a portable 8-gig harddrive the printed photos found at BLC. She needs members to send her digital photos of BLC activities from recent years. Please send to her one photo at a time as a jpg attachment to an email. Explain in the email what is the BLC activity and who are the members pictured. Janice Vollmert has helped with sorting and filing other projects as we met Tuesdays, 9-12 a.m. every two months. We invite others to volunteer for the Archives Committee. At the Congregational Council meeting immediately after the Annual Meeting in January , the council is expected among other things to elect officers, designate the liaison for each council committee, and appoint a member to be Archivist for 2020. Anyone interested in being the Archivist or serving on the Archives Committee, contact Ron Radunzel at rradunzel@ or 886-4880. Alice Zweifel - BLC Archivist 2019LIBRARY SPOTLIGHT"Strength to Love" written by Martin Luther King Jr is a collection of some of his sermons that speak to importance of loving all people and the world we share. He was a man who shared a message of nonviolence as he wrote" At the center of nonviolence stands the principle of love. The nonviolent resister would contend that in the struggle for human dignity, the oppressed people of the world must not succumb to the temptation of becoming bitter or indulging in hate campaigns. To retaliate in kind would do nothing but intensify the existence of hate in the universe. Along the way of life, someone must have sense enough and morality enough to cut off the chain of hate. This can only be done by projecting the ethic of love to the center of our lives. Love, truth, and the courage to do what is right should be our own guideposts on this lifelong journey." This book gives us a message that is important and valuable for the world we live in today. Stop the violence, replace it with peace and love. Another book that also shares insights into the world we live in is "Bonhoefer & King SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER" written by J Deotis Roberts. You will read and learn about the lives of Dietrich Bonhoefer and Martin Luther King Jr. They lived in different times but they each had similar ideas about dealing with sharing compassion in the middle of a world that struggled with oppressing and hating people. Different times that needed love to be the guide and not hate. Both of these men have important messages to share. Please come to your library and check one of these books out and be inspired.Summer Mission Trip/Youth EventPastor Tim is working on a Mission Trip for our youth from seventh through twelfth grade.
