I had the Zmodo Mini Pro up and running shortly after taking it out of the box. I downloaded the mobile app, created an account, and tapped the plus icon in the upper right corner of the welcome screen. I selected the Scan QR Code option, plugged in the camera, and followed the voice instructions to connect the camera to my Wi-Fi network and enter my Wi-Fi password. When a QR code appeared on my phone, I held it 8 inches from the Mini Pro and waited a few seconds for the camera to be recognized. I gave the camera a name, tapped Next, and the installation was done. The Mini Pro delivered sharp 1080p video in testing. Color quality was very good, and black-and-white night vision was clear and adequately illuminated out to around 25 feet. There was no obvious barrel or pincushion distortion, and two-way audio was clean and loud. Intelligent motion detection and motion zones worked well, as did streaming video to an Amazon Echo Show using Alexa voice commands. For just $14, it delivers sharp 1080p video and offers intelligent motion detection, 12 hours of free cloud storage, and voice control. That said, you have to subscribe to Zmodo's cloud service to take advantage of object detection and time-lapse video, and to access video older than 12 hours. For $6 more, the Wyze Cam V3 is a much better deal: It can be used indoors or outside, offers color night vision and local storage, has a built-in siren, and works with a wealth of third-party smart devices.
