Lab quiz 1 guidelines

The lab will be a combination of practical and written questions (20-25 points).

Expect some microscope stations and some hands on/observation type questions.

Lab 1

Be familiar with the ABO blood type genetics and molecular biology. Know how you determined your blood type. Be familiar with the DETAIL of blood donation compatibility. For example, be able to tell me exactly why a person with ____blood type may or may not receive blood from someone with_____blood type. Practice writing it before hand. Tell me WHY someone’s blood type may be considered the universal donor/recipient.

Be able to recognize a lymphocyte, neutrophil, and monocyte by sight. Give justification for choosing one type of cell as your answer. Be able to recognize any WBC if given information about it.

Lab 2

Be able to discuss the use of a hemacytometer and to determine a cell count given any variation on what we did. i.e be able to keep track of cell counts from any number of squares, using any dilution scheme. Be able to determine a cell count in mm3 or ml. Be able to use hemacytometer data given different dimensions than those you used.
