Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto Location: Primary health care and community nursing sites in agencies throughout the GTA Orientation Date: TBD Rotation: January 9 or 10, 2019 to April 4 or 5, 2019 (no clinical during reading week Feb 19 – 22 or March 22)Days: Monday mornings (in class at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing); Students in Clinical 2 days each week on Wednesdays, Thursdays and/or FridaysHours: 100 to 120 hours depending on size of clinical groupHourly rate: Commensurate with experienceDescription:The Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing Program provides a full-time, two-year, second entry baccalaureate nursing education. Given that nursing is a practice based profession, we believe that clinical experience is a vital and integral component of the curriculum, providing students with hands-on opportunities to practice their nursing skills under direct supervision of their preceptor and indirect supervision of their clinical instructor. The clinical instructor supports student learning, liaises with the preceptor and clinical agency, and collaborates with the Faculty. The clinical instructor role is anessential and powerful component of nursing education.Duties and Responsibilities:1. Attend clinical instructor orientation for NUR461.2. Attend and assist with Primary Care skills lab for their clinical group in the Simulation Lab.3. Support student learning: a) Teach - attend weekly class and lead "clinical discussion"; b)Monitor student performance - review and offer feedback of student learning objectives; review and discuss student midterm self-assessments; assess student progress and complete final student evaluations; ensure ongoing communication with students, preceptors and course faculty.4. Prepare for and attend, assist and co-facilitate the Emergency Preparedness Simulation.5. Collaborate with Course Faculty: Schedule and conduct site visits at the beginning and end of term; conduct midterm discussion with clinical preceptor and students; utilize telephone calls, emails and visits throughout the term as needed to deal with student clinical placement issues.Qualifications:1. Professional nursing experience in community health rural and/or underserved settings.2. Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse orRegistered Nurse in the Extended Class.3. Current membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) is preferred.4. Master's degree in Nursing or equivalent is preferred; BScN is required.5. Previous teaching experience will be considered an asset.6. Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills.7. Competent in MS Office applications.
