The competition shall be held from 08th to 10th November, 2013. All the teams must arrive in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 07th November, 2013, and must be present at the University by 4.00pm on the very same day for ORIENTATION PROGRAMME. LANGUAGE The language for the competition shall be English. ELIGIBILITY Law schools/colleges recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate in the competition. The participants should currently be pursuing their Bachelor’s degree in Law i.e., Three Year or Five Year LL.B/ B.L courses. TEAM COMPOSITION Each team shall comprise of three members; two speakers and a researcher. REGISTRATION The Participating team shall duly fill in the registration form provided along with the “Rules” and send it along with the registration fee of Rs. 2,000/-(Two Thousand only). The registration fee shall be paid through Demand Draft, drawn in favour of “Saveetha University” payable at Chennai. The Last date for submitting the registration form with fee shall be 18th October 2013. The teams must send their “Provisional Registration” (Confirmation of their participation by way of Email) on or before 14th October, 2013. Each team shall be allotted a “Team Code” on receipt of the registration form and fee. Spot registration will not be entertained. The identity of the team shall not be disclosed. Any such disclosure shall lead to disqualification. STRUCTURE OF ROUNDS The oral rounds shall comprise of: PRELIMINARY ROUNDS: There shall be two preliminary rounds. Every team shall be given the opportunity to argue on each side in the preliminary rounds which shall be determined by way of draw of lots. Each team shall get a total of 30 minutes to present their case. This time will include the time for ‘rebuttal’ and ‘sur-rebuttal’. The division of time between the speakers is the discretion of the team members, subject to a maximum of 15 minutes for any one speaker. Before the commencement of each round, each team shall indicate to the ‘court officer’ as to how they wish to allocate their 30 minutes. The top 8 teams will be decided based on their win points. In case of tie, the teams having higher scores in the oral rounds will proceed, -224155-7245985and even after that the tie is still in existence, the highest speaker score will determine which team proceeds to the quarter finals.QUARTER-FINALS: The teams shall argue only for one side in the quarter finals. The side to be represented by the team shall be determined by way of draw of lots. Each team shall get a total of 30 minutes to present their case. The division of time between the speakers is the discretion of the team members, subject to a maximum of 15 minutes for any one -452755-1082040Speaker.(The Rules regarding time allocation is similar to the preliminary round.)SEMI-FINALS: The side to be represented by the team shall be determined by way of draw of lots. Each team shall get a total of 40 minutes to present their case. This time will include ‘rebuttal’ and ‘sur-rebuttal’. The division of time between the speakers is the discretion of the team members, subject to a maximum of 20 minutes for any one speaker. Each team shall indicate to the ‘court officer’ as to how it wishes to allocate its 40 minutes. On the basis of knock out, 2 (two) teams shall advance to the finals. FINALS: Each team shall get a total of 40 minutes to present their case. The division of the time is the discretion of the team members, subject to a maximum of 20 minutes for any one speaker (including rebuttal and sur-rebuttal time). Written SubmissionAll participating teams shall submit 6 sets of written memorials (6 for petitioner and 6 for respondent). The cover page of the memorials for the petitioner shall be in Blue and the respondent shall be in Green. The teams shall not indicate their names or the names of their College or University on the memorials. The team code allotted to all teams shall be indicated at the top right corner of the memorials, which will be communicated by way of Email. All participating teams must submit a soft copy of their memorials in PDF format, for both sides by 11:55pm on 25th October 2013. Teams must also send the hard copies of the memorials (6 sets each for the petitioner and respondent) by 1st November 2013 The hard copies must be exact print outs of the soft copies. Non-compliance with this rule would entail disqualification. The written memorials shall conform to the set standards: Written submissions shall be printed on white standard A4 size paper. The font and size of the text used in all parts of the written submissions (except the covers) shall be in Times New Roman, size 12 and footnotes shall be in Times New Roman, size 10. The text in all parts of each written submission shall be in ‘Double Line Spacing’ except the text of footnotes and headings which shall be single spaced. The comprehensive arguments with appropriate citations shall be contained in the pleadings. The teams shall follow the 19th Edition of the Bluebook mode of citation. In all matters of complaints or disputes, the decision of the Organizing Committee shall be final. If any dispute arises with respect to any ‘Round’, the decision of the judges of that particular round shall be final. Only the registered three (3) member team shall be provided accommodation. The team shall make their own arrangements for any extra members. All teams shall be provided accommodation from 07th November, 2013 to 10th November, 2013. MISCELLANEOUS Scouting shall lead to the instant disqualification of the team. Copyright The copyright over the memorials submitted by the participants, shall vest completely and fully with Saveetha School of Law, Saveetha University.
