Organizer means the Swami Devi Dyal Law College, Barwala (Panchkula)2. Competition means National Moot Compitition, 2018.3. Participating Team/ Institution means the team that has registered itself for the competition as per the rules. 2.TIME, DATE & VENUE 1. The National Moot Compitition, 2108 shall be held during November, 2nd and 3rd ,2018. 2. Venue: Swami Devi Dyal Group Of professional Institutes, Barwala (Panchkula).3. LANGUAGE 1. The official language for the Competition shall be English only. 4. ELIGIBIITY 1. The Competition shall be open for ‘bona fide’ students who are pursuing an integrated 5 year LL.B. Programme or 3 year LL.B Programme or any graduation or post-graduation in which law is been taught as major subject from an institute/university in India & outside India . Such institution must be recognized by the Bar Council of India or any law recognizing statutory body in specific country. 2. Only two team can register from a particular law school/ College/ Institution/University to participate in the Competition. 5. TEAM COMPOSITION 1. Each participating university/college/institute shall nominate teams consisting of three student members, out of whom, two will be speakers and one will be the researcher. 2. Any additional member will not be entitled to local hospitality. He/ She shall also be not entitled to any kind of prize/ award in the competition. 3. The Researcher may be permitted to argue as Speaker in case of illness OR any unforeseen event. Prior permission of the organizers of competition in such case shall be mandatory. 6. DRESS CODE 1. Participants are required to adhere to the following dress code in the court room during the Competition: Ladies: White shirt and black pant/black skirt along with black tie, black coat and black shoes. Gentlemen: White shirt, black trousers, black tie along with black coat and black shoes. Strict adherence to the dress code is solicited. Failure will result in disqualification.7. ACCOMODATION 1. The accommodation shall be provided to the participating teams within the College Campus in the student’s hostel. The accommodation facility shall be restricted to only Three Members nominated of the respective teams, which in any case shall not change. 2. The participating teams are supposed to intimate the details of their arrival and departure as mentioned in ACCOMODATION FORM. 8. REGISTRATION 1. The registration of team is considered to be complete, once the registration fee Rs.1500 is paid. The registration amount can be deposited on the same day and participants can also generate demand draft in favor of Swami Devi Dyal hi-tech Education Academy. 2. Registration fees once paid will not be refunded. 3. Each team registered under the Rules shall be allotted a unique code. Once the unique code have been allotted, participants must use the respective team code for any further communication with the Organizers during the course of the Competition. 4. The participating teams are supposed to refer the REGISTRATION FORM for the purpose of their registration. 9. STRUCTURE OF THE COMPETITION 1. The formal commencement of the competition will be held on 2nd November, 2018 followed by registration of teams, allotment of rooms to the participants, drawing of lots and exchange of memorials. 2. The competition will start with inaugural ceremony on 2nd November. The series of events will commence as per below schedule:- ? November 2nd , 2018 [DAY-1] -- Preliminary Rounds & Semi- Finals. ? November 3rd , 2018 [DAY-2] -- Final Round followed by the valedictory function. ? Certificates and prizes will be distributed only during the valedictory function. No prize/certificate will be given to participants who are not present at the valedictory session. 10. PRELIMINARY ROUND In preliminary rounds each team will argue from one side only (appellantor respondent).The marks of the preliminary round shall be the cumulative total ofthe marks of both the speakers and the marks of the memorial of the side inwhich they are FOUR (4) teams shall move to the semi finals on the basis of themarks of the preliminary rounds.In case of a tie between two or more teams, the aggregate total of the score of oral submissions of the speakers shall be taken into consideration.11. SEMI-FINAL ROUND It shall be a knock out round. The winner of each round shall move tothe Final.The criteria of marking in this round are aggregate total of the marks of both the speakers.In case of tie between teams, in semi-finals, the aggregate total of themarks of memorials of the teams shall be counted. Team with highest marks moves ahead.There shall be one (1) FINAL ROUND. The marking criteria in Final Round is same as that of semi-final12. FINALS 1. The Finals will be held post completion of Semi-Finals. A team will be credited with a win in the Final if the total marks are higher than those of its opponent team. 2. Each team shall get Maximum 30 minutes to present their case. This time will include the time for 'rebuttal' and 'Surrebuttal'. Any extension of time beyond the specified period shall be subject to the discretion of the judges. 3. The division of time between the speakers is the discretion of the team members, subject to a maximum 20 minutes for each speaker. 4. Allocation of time to each member of respective team should be indicated to “court officer” before the commencement of the round. . 13. MEMORIAL RULES 1. General Rule i. All memorials submitted for all purposes of the Competition shall strictly adhere to the rules of the Competition. ii. Each Team participating in the Competition must prepare one Memorial on behalf of Petitioner(s)/ Appellant(s) and one on behalf of the Respondent(s). iii. Each team is required to submit 5 hard copies of the Memorials from each side at the time of registration. Non-compliance will entail a penalty of deduction of 10 points per copy not submitted. iv. The mode of citation throughout the memorial shall be 19th Edition of Harvard Bluebook. v. Appellant memorials are required to have a light blue cover and Respondent memorials are required to have a bright yellow cover. vi. The memorials shall not contain any form of identification apart from the team code only on front page. If any such identification or mark, symbol, etc. which has the effect of identifying the team is found on the memorial, then it shall result in instant disqualification or any other penalty can be impose. vii. The Team Code should be only written on cover page top right. viii. The hard copy of memorial must be exact replica of the soft copy submitted with the Organizers. Any difference in the same will result in disqualification from the Competition. ix. Teams will not be allowed in any case to update/exchange memorials/written submissions once it has been submitted/ send for evaluation. x. Each Team must send a soft copy of their memorials, in PDF format only, for evaluation by October 25, 2018 11:59 P.M. (IST) to sddlclaw@ with the subject “Submission for National Moots”Guidelines for Formatting: All memorials shall be prepared as per the following specifications: i. Memorial or counter memorial shall not be more than 30 typed pages. ii. Memorials must be typed and submitted on standard A4 size paper. iii. Font and size of the text of all parts of the memorial (excluding footnotes) must be the same and must be in Times New Roman 12 font size. iv. The texts of all parts of each memorial must be double line-spaced, with one inch margin on both sides. v. The text of footnotes may be single line spaced. The font size of footnotes must be 2 points less than the text font. vi. There must be double spacing between separate footnotes and between each heading and the body text of the memorial. vii. Quotations of sources outside of the memorial of fifty words or more in any part of the memorial shall be block quoted and must be single-spaced. viii. The table of Contents, Index of Authorities, statement of jurisdiction, Identification of issues, statement of facts, summary of pleadings and Case Title will not be counted in the 30 typed pages limit. ix. The total number of pages should not exceed 40 pages including (Table of Contents, Index of Authorities, Statement of Jurisdiction, Identification of Issues, Statement of Facts, Summary of Pleadings, Pleadings including the Conclusion and/or Prayer for Relief). Content of Memorials The Memorial shall consist of the following parts: i. Table of Contents ii. Index of Authorities (including corresponding page numbers) iii. Statement of Jurisdiction iv. Identification of Issues v. Statement of Facts vi. Summary of Pleadings vii. Pleadings including the Conclusion and/or Prayer for Relief 14. MARKING CRITERIA The maximum score for the memorial shall be 100 marks. The criteria for evaluating the memorial are as followed, Knowledge of Law (10 Marks)Knowledge of Facts (10 Marks)Proper and Articulate Analysis (10 Marks)Evidence of Original Thought (10 Marks)Grammar and Style (10 Marks)Correct Format and Citation (10 Marks)Extent and Use of Research (10 Marks)Clarity and Organization (10 Marks) A penalty of one (1) mark for each side of memorial shall be entailed on eachday’s default in submissions of memorials.Oral SubmissionEach team will have a maximum of twenty (20) minutes including rebuttals to present their Oral Submissions in Preliminary Rounds & Semi-Final. No speaker will be permitted to address the Court for more than ten (10 minutes). The maximum time for rebuttal/sur-rebuttal is three (3) minutes.If any speaker continues to speak after the completion of his/her time, he/sheshall entail penalty which shall be upon the discretion of the judges.Each team will have a maximum of thirty (30) minutes including rebuttals to present their Oral Submissions in Final Round. No speaker will be permitted to address the Court for more than fifteen (15 minutes). The maximum time for rebuttal/sub-rebuttal is three (5) minutes.Marking Criteria for ArgumentEach speaker will be marked on a total of 50 marks by each Bench Judge.The following will be the Marking Criteria and the Marks allocated to each Speaker by each Judge in the Round:Knowledge of Law and Moot Problem (10 Marks)Vocabulary and Speaking Skills (10 Marks)Ingenuity and Ability to Answer Questions (10 Marks)Time Management (10 Marks)Court Ethics (10 Marks)The decision of the judges as to the Marks allocated to any team shall be final.15. IMPLEMENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF RULES: 1. Regarding Competition practice and procedures, the final decision on the interpretation and implementation of rules lies with the organizers. 2.
