5216525571500Career Ready Internship Onboarding and Pre-employment Handbook Scotland 2021 This handbook details the documentation that Career Ready students need to gather and provide to be employed by their internship employer, as a paid temporary employee for the 4 week period.Students will be treated as paid temporary employees and must go through the employers’ normal onboarding (pre-employment) checks. Different employers have different requirements which are detailed in this handbook.It is vital that students are able to provide what is required and that the documents can be verified (checked by an authorised employee). School coordinators and mentors should work with their students to ensure students have all necessary identification/documentation to start the internship and support them in completing relevant paperwork where required. The documents that prove a student has the right to work in the UK (Passport or full birth certificate AND NI Letter) and provide proof of address (bank statements sent to home address) can and should be organised well in advance. There may be additional requirements where students are not British citizens.Without timely provision of these documents, the internship can be severely delayed or may not take place.Each student must have a bank account opened with paper statements coming to their home address. This ensures they will be paid and is the best way to prove they live at the address given. Please set up a bank account with paper statements coming to your home address if you have not done this.Each student must able to prove they have the right to work in the UK. Where the student is a British citizen, they need a passport/driving licence OR a full birth certificate (example below) AND the letter that confirms their NI number. Where the student is not a British citizen, they will need an appropriate passport and visa documentation (and sometimes those belonging to parents or guardians). The checklist is on each employer form.Students must complete any additional specific onboarding documents/online processes and requirements where applicable – see each employer’s specific requirements. These will be communicated to the student at the appropriate time by the employer.
