This will allow students to apply their new knowledge and creative ideas into a purposeful piece of art. Materials and Techniques: Choose from a variety of art media to express a feeling, to communicate a message, and represent people, places, and objects.Development of Imagery: Create an Artwork independently, based on memory, observation, imagination, fantasy, mood, and in response to expressive art forms.Essential Questions:What is art?How do we communicate to each other through art?Introduction/ Motivation:As the students are setting up for class, I have a familiar band/artist’s music playing in the background. Once they are seated, I put up my own personal example of an album cover I designed for this music. “Can anyone point out some elements of my album cover that are particularly interesting to you!?” “What elements of design do you see in this artwork?” “ How would you add/change this album cover?” I receive suggestions and we have a brief discussion on the example I have modelled, in order to refresh their memory on the previous lessons.Processes/Activities:There are various tables/stations set up throughout the classroom that are specific to whichever type of design- Computer design, drawing, painting, abstractions, etc. Each student will receive the appropriately folded/cut watercolour paper and will be divided into groups based on the type of medium they wish to explore. The teacher circulates the room as students work, asking questions addressing each student’s inspiration, their ideas, how they can add detail, why they are incorporating certain things, etc. As the class is ending, students assist in clean up and we set aside our artworks until the next class. Those students who have not finished are welcomed to work on them further during recess, lunch, after school, etc. 10 mins- Model of teacher’s example and discussion for review.10 mins- Ensuring each students has a specific inspiration (ie. Musician, movie, book, etc., & dividing students into stations- Computer Design, Drawing, Painting, Appropriation.30 mins- Students work independently on their own personal artwork, using their medium and tools, while applying their recently learned knowledge and skills. 5 mins- Clean up. Students put their artwork on a shelf in the class to dry or keep until the next day. Those using the computers must save and/or print their artwork at this point. The class follows the routine of putting away materials in their proper places and washing work areas. Conclusion/Closure:5mins- Students return to their seats and we have a brief discussion about the activity. Reverse back to the key question, “how do we communicate through art?” and ask students how they were able to do so. ................
