In 2004 former Battle -Axe recording artist Mr Brady and one of San Diego’s most seasoned rap artist Johaz came together to form the group Deep Rooted. Under their indie label Openmyndz Entertainment, Deep Rooted came together to blend the best of hip-hop with their own style of “feel good music.” In early 2004 the group welcomed female vocalist Just Brea. Adding her sensual sound to the already hot beats, Deep Rooted sealed their place in the hip hop community. With the addition of DJ Artistic, and San Diego’s Urban Dynamics crew dancers CeSe and Boosie, Deep Rooted became a force to be reckoned with.

Within the first few years as a group, Deep Rooted went home with the 2005/2006/2007 best hip hop album and group in San Diego nomination, and the 2006 and 2007 award for best hip hop album, for their acclaimed “ A New Beginning” and “ The Second Coming”. They are the second hip hop group ever to perform at the award show. The group’s performance brought the crowd to their feet.

Joining the Vans Warped Tour in 2004, they were appreciated for their performances by being invited back in 2005 and 2007. Also in 2007 due to their outstanding live performance, DJ Artistic was invited to DJ for X Clan on the nationwide Public Enemy Tour.

Attending three consecutive Urban Network conferences, Deep Rooted scored a ten out of ten from every judge each time they performed. They are the only act to accomplish this task. This earned them many write-ups in the Urban Network Magazine along with a spot on the 2008 Urban Network Compilation CD.

Deep Rooted has also volunteered their time to help raise money and bring awareness to the genocide in Darfur (Southern Sudan Africa). They have also given back to the youth by volunteering their time at numerous grade schools and colleges.

Opening up for some of hip- hops best - Public Enemy, The Roots, Common, KRS- ONE, Lupe Fiasco, X Clan, Wu Tang Clan, Kurtis Blow, The Boot Camp Click and many more, Deep Rooted has more than earned their spot as one of California’s top rap/soul groups. Their outstanding talents also earned them mentions and good reviews on hip hops well known music sites, and .

Collaborating with some well-known names such as Diamond D, Blu, Killah Priest of Wu-Tang Clan,Tajai of Hieroglyphics/Souls of Mischief, Rock of Helta Skelta, Exile, Jake One, Rhettmatic, Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Abstract Rude and OHNO, the group’s musical projects are always highly anticipated.

They have not only rocked some of the hottest venues like House of Blues, Coors Amphitheater, the Belly Up Tavern and 4th and B, the group’s music is also featured on the X Box and Play Station video games NBA 2K6, NBA 2K7 and the X Box commercial for the game. Their radio drops and jingles are featured on some of the hottest urban radio stations in the country: Jammin Z90, Blazin 98.9, Jazz 88.3, KJLU 88.9 and LA based station Power 106 just to name a few.

They have released two albums independently. “A New Beginning” and their sophomore album “The Second Coming,” which led to the release of their single Celebrate put out by Up Above Records and re released by Genre records. The single reached over 2000 spins nation wide.

The award-winning group is making its mark in the US and Overseas, putting the group on the map in the States, Europe and Asia. They have sold over 10,000 albums independently and continue to pave their way with many different musical projects.

Now with a highly anticipated buzz, Deep Rooted is releasing their third album, self- titled “Deep Rooted” on Tajai of Hieroglyphics/Souls of Mischief new label, Clear Label Records.

Look out for Deep Rooted to hit the road again nationally and internationally. Their musical talents, outstanding live performances and their universal sound, “ feel good music,” will definitely leave those listening, feeling good and staying Open Minded.
