Policy debate involves two people on a team arguing for or against a specific policy proposal involving the Federal Government. Lincoln-Douglas Debate is a one-on-one argument over a moral or philosophical question. The program for individual events (speaking, oral interpretation and spelling) culminates with the state meets held annually. The program originates within each member school desiring to participate. The school conducts a school meet to determine its champions and to qualify them for competition in the district meet. First, second and third place district winners are eligible to compete in the regional contests. First, second and third place regional winners are eligible to compete in the state championship meet held annually. If a first, second or third place team or individual is unable to advance to the regional or state tournament, the fourth place team or individual in the appropriate district or regional tournament may compete at the next level and will be inserted in the schematic pairings in the vacated spot without regard to protection. They are a staff of students who applied for their positions. Journalism is a prerequisite. The hierarchy of the staff is editor-in-chief, section editors, and staff writers. There are also photographers and graphic artists. The students are responsible for the entire process of putting the student’s newspaper together, beginning with the story ideas all the way to the layout, the student’s work together to produce the paper. Various computer programs will be used for design and layout for the newspaper. The editors and staff member will not solicit advertisements of a political, philosophical or cause-oriented nature.
