(S&D)Subject:Breast cancer and diagnosis delays due to COVID-19Breast cancer is the most common carcinoma among women: in 2020, it accounted for 11.7 % of the global incidence and 6.9 % of the global cancer mortality. In the same year, more than 355 000 new diagnoses were estimated in Europe, with breast cancer ranking among the leading causes of mortality.The main weapon currently available is early mammography screening, which prevents the disease in 40 % of cases. However, due to the pandemic, in Italy alone there has been a diagnostic delay of about 4 months, with about 3 000 unidentified cases of breast cancer between January and September 2020.The Commission’s ‘Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan’ includes widening access to diagnostics to reach 90 % of the European population by 2025, and improving the quality of life for survivors, who often experience disorders even after the end of treatments, affecting their working abilities.Does the Commission intend to:1.encourage investments to increase the number of Breast Units and draw up specific guidelines to speed up diagnosis and to reduce the existing disparity among Member States?2.promote initiatives to encourage enterprises to retain or reintegrate female breast cancer survivors into the labour market? ................
