Chair Alin Andre called the meeting to order at 5:15 PM. Secretary Luisa Shirley will record minutes for this meeting.Minutes – 5:17 PMMs. Kwak makes the first motion to approve the November 18, 2019 minutes with the correction of Ms. Parker’s name from Lisa Parker to Earlene Parker. Mr. Laverde seconds the motion. Mr. Andre calls for a verbal vote. Motion passes.Ms. Kwak makes the first motion to approve the November 18, 2019 SAF minutes. Ms. Moore seconds the vote. Mr. Andre calls for a verbal vote. Motion passes. Principal’s Report - 5:21 PMMidterm exams are from December 17-20, 2019. The High School will release at 12:35 PM from Tuesday-Thursday and 2:35 PM on Friday of that week. Teachers will return from winter break on January 6, 2020 and students will return on January 7, 2020.The next Professional Study Day will be on January 16, 2020The last week before Thanksgiving there were two days without internet services. The fiber on the cover walkways were cut which resulted in the interruption of the internet. The school doesn’t know how it happened. This will be addressed with construction. If the WI-FI is down, parents can call the school’s cell phone number at 954-294-6025. The construction projects are behind schedule.The next SAF meeting Ms. Awofadeju will go over the current construction status as well as the SMART bond status.Nova’s career fair will be held on January 10, 2020Ms. Awofadeju wished everyone a happy holiday and restful break.Professional Study Day: New Waiver Vote – 5:28 PMA new five-year waiver for Professional Study Days for the 2020-2021 school year needs to be approved. This will allow Nova High School up to eight additional early release days during the school year for the purpose of high school reform.Mr. Laverde makes the first motion to approve the waiver. Motion passes.Safety and Security- 5:30 PMMr. Chartrand presents updates on safety and securityIt was noted that a new security monitor was hiredMr. Bishop arranged for window coverings for classroom windows. He has also volunteered his time to install the window coverings.One new camera was installed on the other side of the auditoriumWe are looking into obtaining additional camerasInnovative Programs Presentation: 5:32 PMThe presenter is Mr. Sean Smith from Salty JobsHe is a part of the Marine Association of South FloridaMr. Smith provided information and resources to research careers in the marine fieldSchool Improvement Plan – 5:55PMMr. Adam Handler presented Nova High School’s CTE Industry Certification program information and how our PLCs are used to develop curriculum to increase student achievement He reviewed all the opportunities that Nova High provides through CTACECulinary arts, robotics, AutoCAD, business and management analysis are some of the CTE programs offered at Nova High SchoolPresented CTE dataAnnounced that Nova won the Chapter of Excellence Program Gold AwardCarolina presented this award to Ms. AwofadejuOld Business / New Business - 6:02 PMThe 2020-2021 school year calendar has been approved.
