We empower survivors by keeping their voices at the heart of our work, listening and responding to their needs. We are a federation of over 220 organisations who provide more than 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across the country. Over the past forty years Women’s Aid has been at the forefront of shaping and coordinating responses to domestic violence and abuse through practice. Our campaigns achieve change in policy, practice and awareness, encouraging healthy relationships and helping to build a future where domestic abuse is no longer tolerated.Main purpose of roleTo enhance the profile of Women’s Aid among decision makers and the public and represent the needs of victims and survivors of violence against women to policy makers and influencers including the UK governmentTo develop and lead campaigns based on the experiences of women survivors of domestic abuse on behalf of Women's Aid to raise the profile of violence against women and girls, domestic abuse and Women's AidTo develop and support Women’s Aid’s strategic engagement and influencing on Change that Lasts, Women’s Aid’s new strengths-based, needs-led approach that supports domestic abuse survivors and their children to build resilience, and leads to independenceDUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIESManagement and LeadershipTo develop a strategic and planned public affairs programme for Women’s Aid, in consultation with the Director of Policy, Voice and Membership.To develop high profile public campaigns for Women’s Aid, in consultation with the Director of Policy, Voice and Membership.To contribute to the preparation of the annual business plan in consultation with the Director of Policy, Voice and Membership, and to monitor and evaluate the success of those targets on an annual cycle.To ensure efficient and effective internal communication, information flows and to foster co-operation between staff.To maintain the profile of Women’s Aid proactively and to contribute to Women’s Aid fundraising, publicity and PR priorities and events as required.To take part at Women’s Aid AGM and Annual conference as required and present regular written reports as necessary. To manage special short term projects concerned with the development or operation of Women’s Aid as required.Operational Campaigning and Strategic Influencing To ensure the management and delivery of a programme of policy work and campaigning to further the aims and objectives of Women's Aid.To develop and implement a Public Affairs and Campaigns strategy and engagement programme for Women’s Aid in consultation with the Director of Policy, Voice and Membership.To support the development of effective partnerships with government, statutory voluntary agencies and private sector companies, and to represent Women’s Aid at the highest level to promote Women’s Aid profile and policies, as required.To lead on proactive secretariat support to the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Domestic Violence liaising with members and speakers to ensure appropriate schedule and content of meetings.To develop and support Women’s Aid’s strategic engagement and influencing with key decisions makers at local and national level on Change that Lasts, in consultation with the Chief Executive and Director of Operations. To ensure the provision of information, advice, and resources, on campaigns, public affairs and public policy on domestic abuse, to the national network of local Women’s Aid organisations, relevant agencies and partnerships, as well as Women’s Aid national team.To oversee and lead on public policy consultation requests from Government working with peers and 2nd tier organisations to ensure one voice when dealing with VAWG policy issues. To ensure that legislation, policy and practice on domestic abuse is monitored, to inform Women’s Aid’s campaigns, public affairs and policy work, and other relevant activities, and that the media and publicity team have advance notice of opportunities to gain coverage on social and conventional media.To ensure the Chief Executive, Executive Management Team and relevant staff are kept up to date with all relevant developments in the field of domestic abuse, and the wider issues of violence against women and girls as relevant. To write and prepare articles for the Women’s Aid SAFE newsletter providing a radar of up and coming public affairs, campaigns and policy issues.To work with the Media and Communications Manager on social media to ensure the effective and professional promotion of the role, profile and campaigns of Women’s Aid and the impact of domestic abuse on women and children; and to ensure the development of relevant education, training and publicity materials.LINE MANAGEMENTTo carry out management, supervision, appraisal and development of staff in the Campaigns and Public Affairs team to ensure high quality service and achievement of the annual business plan.To ensure the successful recruitment, induction and initial training of all staff within the Campaigns and Public Affairs team.To manage consultants who are supporting the development of Change that Lasts.DEPARTMENT BUDGETTo ensure proper management of any delegated budgets, participate in budgeting and financial management as required.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES To maintain clear and adequate records of work done and to produce reports on work programmes and activities as required by the Chief Executive.To contribute to team meetings and organisational priorities, to prepare and participate in supervision and appraisal meetings.To take direction on projects and priorities from your line manager, which may vary from time to time.
