Measuring Mass and Volume Lab
Measuring Mass and Volume Lab
Problem: How can we calculate the mass and volume of some everyday objects?
Initial Data: 1.2 Notes
Materials:
Graduated Cylinder Metal Cylinders
Wooden Blocks Marbles
Clay Triple Beam Balance
H20 Lab Journals
Pencil
Procedure:
1. Copy pre-lab into your journal and complete 1.2 notes.
2. Gather in cooperative groups and assign jobs.
3. Materials expert should obtain materials.
4. Listen to directions on how to use a triple beam balance and how to calculate volume 2 ways. (L x W X H and Displacement of water)
5. Set up the data table and collect data (mass and volume for all objects)
6. Answer the questions and write a conclusion.
Data Collected:
|Object |Mass (g) |Method to Calculate Volume |Volume (mL or cm3) |
|Clay | | | |
|Marble | | | |
|Wooden Block | | | |
|Metal Cylinder | | | |
