Final Exam Review
FINAL EXAM : December 17, 2008 8:30-11:00
Here is a short guide to all the material we have covered since August. Please make sure to review what is on this list and ask me to review anything in class. The final exam will be very similar to the material on past tests so it’s a great idea to go through those as a study tool.
Number Theory
** Identify and use natural numbers, integers, prime numbers, square numbers, common factors and common multiples.
** Add, subtract, multiply, and divide with negatives, decimals, and fractions.
** Calculate squares, square roots, cubes and cube roots of numbers, as well as the pi button, and SIN, COS, and TAN functions by using a calculator.
** Use the standard index form A x 10n.
** Comprehend the difference between rational and irrational numbers.
** Solve problems using estimation, rounding, and upper and lower bounds.
** Calculate a percentage of a quantity and percentage increase and decrease.
** Use decimals, fractions, and percentages in appropriate contexts, and recognize equivalence and convert between these forms.
** Demonstrate an understanding of ratio and direct proportion, and be able to divide a quantity in a given ratio.
** Demonstrate an understanding of common measures of rate, use map scales, and calculate speed, distance, and time.
** Use given data to solve problems on finance involving earnings, simple and compound interest, discount, profit and loss, and convert money from one currency to another.
Algebra
** Use letters to express generalized numbers and basic arithmetic processes algebraically, and substitute numbers for words and letters in formulae.
** Solve linear equations involving exponents, fractions, and parentheses with one unknown variable.
** Know how to distribute and use the FOIL method.
** Be able to factor using normal factorization, the factor box, difference of two squares, and the splitting method.
** Solve two simultaneous equations with two unknowns by using substitution or elimination.
** Solve equations by using the Quadratic Formula.
Mensuration
** Find the area and perimeter for several shapes, including the square, rectangle, kite, trapezium
** Be able to find the area and perimeter of a triangle and parallelogram given the base and height OR given two sides and the included angle.
** Be able to find the area and circumference of a circle, arc length, sector angle, and sector areas of chords
