Advanced Standing in the Registered Nursing Program (LVNs, Psychiatric Technicians, and Transfer Students and Others)The?Application Period for the Registered Nursing Program?is January 15 through March 1 for the following Fall and Spring semesters. See the?Annual Academic Application Cycle.Who is Eligible?Please note that the Registered Nursing Program is severely impacted and returning Ohlone College nursing students have first priority for placement. It is wise to apply to several programs.Advanced standing in the Registered Nursing Program is an option for students who fall into one of the following categories:California Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) or 30-unit option for LVNs.Psychiatric TechniciansMilitary-Trained Healthcare Personnel Policy (link to Advanced Placement for LVNsLVNs with a valid California license and one year LVN experience may be admitted to the third semester of the Registered Nursing Program on space-available basis following?completion of all required courses and other requirements.30-unit option for LVNsIn compliance with regulations by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) may seek eligibility for the RN licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) without meeting the requirements for an Associate in Science degree by successfully completing the "30-unit option". Students who select this option will be required to sign a statement of understanding regarding the limitations of this option. Each request will be reviewed individually and placement made as spaces are available. Enrollment in the Registered Nursing ProgramOnce a student has been accepted to the Registered Nursing Program, the student must meet the following requirements before enrolling in classes.The applicant will also undergo a competency skills evaluation and pass the basic Math exam per Program policy. Physical exam provided by your health care provider. Physical health, adequate to demands of practice of nursing.Essential physical and sensory competencies required to function safely in a variety of clinical setting: extended walking and standing daily; ability to grasp, push and/or pull; ability to bend and stoop; moving quickly in response to an emergency; using upper body movements; ability to reach; carrying and moving equipment; reaching and/or lifting; vision that allows detecting physical changes; hearing that allows responding to physical and verbal cues; a sense of touch that allows for assessment and palpation. Your health care provider will be asked to complete our required form and attest to your abilities with these physical and sensory requirements. Sign the Nursing Student Conduct Disclosure, Undergo a criminal background check. Students must pass a background check upon acceptance into the nursing program. Existence of convictions will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from enrollment. However, failure to fully disclose may be considered falsification, and will result in offer of enrollment being rescinded and is grounds for immediate termination upon discovery, at any time during enrollment. Students accepted into the nursing program are required to disclose “any crime” (misdemeanor or felony including motor vehicle or driving violations with fines exceeding $1000) incurred prior to the program start date or if any such crimes occur throughout enrollment in the program. “Crimes” must be reported whether or not they have been expunged. Such offenses may be grounds for immediate dismissal. The student must discuss any potential issue with the Director of the Nursing Program. ?Students should be aware of the provisions of the California Nurse Practice Act which requires the Board of Registered Nursing to review the history of previous misdemeanor and felony convictions. The law provides for denial of licensure for crimes or acts, which are substantially related to nursing qualifications, functions, or duties. Undergo a urine drug screen. Failure to pass drug urine screening may result in offer of enrollment being rescinded. ................
