The structure of your online courseThe Medical English for Health Professionals course contains six sections, six tests and a final test. You will learn and practise essential language used by medical professionals.Section 1: IntroductionIn this section you will review and practise useful language used in the medical profession.Test 1This section tests what you have studied in section 1, “Introduction”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.Section 2: Taking a medical historyIn this section you will study useful language to ask questions, prompt patients and understand responses when taking a medical history, and practise summarising a chief complaint. You will do Speaking Tutorial?1 with your tutor.Test 2This section tests what you have studied in section 2, “Taking a medical history”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.Section 3: Diagnostic hypotheses and studiesIn this section you will review diagnostic test vocabulary, practise describing diagnostic test protocol, clinical conditions and diagnostic tests, then practise writing a diagnosis and diagnostic study request. You will send Writing Tutorial 1 to your tutor.Test 3This section tests what you have studied in section 3, “Diagnostic hypotheses and studies”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.Section 4: Giving the patient informationIn this section you will study useful strategies and language for giving patients and medical staff information, then practise giving bad news to a patient. You will do Speaking Tutorial?2 with your tutor.Test 4This section tests what you have studied in section 4, “Giving the patient information”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.Section 5: Documenting findingsIn this section you will practise strategies for reading reports and articles, study scientific and academic words, ways of linking ideas and information, modal verbs and verb forms found in a case report, then practise writing a case study. You will send Writing Tutorial 2 to your tutor. Test 5This section tests what you have studied in section 5, “Documenting findings”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.Section 6: Medical presentationsIn this section you will watch and analyse a short medical presentation, practise the use of the?–ing form and infinitives, ways of contrasting information, expressing facts and opinions, concession and contrast, and how to use pauses and phrasing when speaking.Test 6This section tests what you have studied in section 6, “Medical presentations”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment. Language reviewIn this section will find a summary of language practised in the module. Final testThe final test contains four sections that test what you have learnt in the module. This test is marked out of 40 and contributes to your final assessment.3.
