Narrative Piece – this is a short story, which contains a plot, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution. If students are not familiar with plot elements, just focus on the story having one or more characters and a conflict. Get creative! Any topic is fine, as long as it is school acceptable. Students may write about anything they desire, as long as there is at least one character and a conflict. An example of a great short story can be anything written by Edgar Allan Poe such as “The Masque of the Red Death” or “The Pit and the Pendulum” or “The Open Window” by H.H. Munro. Or, do a quick internet search of short stories and read a few before writing your own. The story should be creative and it should be the student’s own work.
