9 COUNTRIES WHERE AMERICANS CAN WORK LEGALLY

If you work while traveling abroad, you'll be able to afford to travel for quite a bit longer than you thought. These nine countries grant Americans certain types of shortterm visas that allow you to work while you stay there.

1. Australia

If you're between 18 and 30 years old and have around $5000 AUS plus enough money to purchase a roundtrip flight in and out of Australia, you can apply for a working holiday visa.

2. New Zealand

Under the United States Working Holiday Scheme, Americans that are 1830 years old, have at least $4200 NZD and enough for round trip flights in and out of New Zealand can apply to stay and work in New Zealand for up to a year.

3. Germany

18 24 year olds who are open to working as an au pair can apply for an au pair visa to stay in Germany from 6 months to one year. You have to have some knowledge of the German language and can apply once you're in Germany.

4. Sweden

Again, if you're open to being an au pair, Sweden grants au pair visas and gives them a pretty good deal (decent pay, employer must pay for language classes, etc.) You have to be between 18 and 30 years old to apply and also willing to take Swedish language classes.

5. Singapore

If you're still in college or have graduated in the last 12 months from a topranked school and are 1825 years old, you can apply for the work holiday programme in Singapore to stay for up to 6 months.

6. Switzerland

If you'd like to be an au pair in Switzerland, you can apply for a visa for up to one year. You'll need to take a language class for at least three hours per week, which your host family will need to pay 50% of. To apply, Americans need to go through a governmentapproved agency.

7. Denmark

8. Ireland

Under the USIreland working holiday agreement, Americans who've graduated from college within 12 months or that are about to graduate can apply for a work and travel visa for up to 12 months. You'll need to meet the financial requirement to be considered.

9. South Korea

Recent grads between 1830 years old can apply for South Korea's H1 working holiday visa. There are certain jobs you won't be able to do under the H1 visa, but you may be able to under others. For example, to teach English, you'll need to apply for the E2 visa.
