SUBJECT: 2001 & 2002 Civic Rear Knuckle Bushing Noise; Repair for Critical Customer Complaints using CR-V bushing until permanent Civic countermeasure is taken.

Inspect the front bushing on the rear knuckle to see if the rubber bushing is

overhanging the knuckle.

If not look for other noise sources.

CORRECTIVE ACTION: Replace both right & left front bushings.

Raise the car on a hoist and remove both rear wheels.

Mark the position of the toe adjusting bolt/nut, left & right side.

Remove the bolts of both lower knuckle bushings.

Loosen the top bolt for the upper suspension.

Lift the rear knuckle and support it in order to remove the bushing.

Mark the knuckle where the notch is on the old bushing for proper alignment when installing the new bushing. Install the bushing removal tool, lubricate the threads and adapter tip with moly 77 p/n 08798-9010.

Using a ½” drive impact wrench on the bushing removal tool, remove and discard the rear lower front bushing.

Lubricate the updated bushing with dishwashing liquid before installation.

Locate the notch on the new bushing and off set it approximately ¼” with the mark you made on the knuckle, set the bushing into the knuckle.

Install the bushing installation tool and lubricate the threads and washer with moly 77.

Using a ½” drive impact wrench on the bushing removal/install tool, install the new bushing.

Reinstall removed parts in reverse order.

Do the same procedure for the other side.

Check the alignment and adjust as necessary.
