Time for a Treat

The not-so-spooky, kinda kooky Halloween Time at the Disneyland? Resort returns September 26!

When you're talking about a holiday as fun as Halloween, one night to celebrate is just not enough. Fortunately, if you've got an Annual Passport, we've got the answer--Halloween Time at the Disneyland? Resort. Back by popular demand for its third straight year, this magical season features more family friendly fall fun than you can shake a broomstick at!

Beginning on September 26 and running all the way through November 2, Halloween Time at the Disneyland? Resort features Halloween-inspired d?cor, food, entertainment and attractions--including imaginative twists on some classic favorites.

If you've never seen what happens when Halloween and Christmas collide, then you've got to check out Haunted Mansion Holiday. Jack Skellington and his minions from Halloween Town have turned the Haunted Mansion into a mixed-up celebration of the merry and the macabre. Think that's weird? Wait until you see the crazy crops popping up over at Candy Corn Acres in Disney's California Adventure? Park! Looks like Farmer Goofy and his crew of Disney Character helpers have

found a way to grow those sweet kernels on everything from trees to cacti--and in sizes up to two-stories high! Meanwhile, back at the ranch--Big Thunder Ranch in Disneyland? Park, that is-- Sheriff Woody is inviting all his favorite deputies (that means you and me) for some boot-stompin' fun at Woody's Halloween Roundup!

Of course, what's Halloween without a good scream? Over in Disney's California Adventure ? Park, The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorTM stands ready to give your throat a real workout. And the staff there is dying to meet you!

But remember, Halloween Time at the Disneyland ? Resort is 38 days long, so pace yourself. Enjoying a small taste each visit is the trick to enjoying this festive treat!

Jack Skellington and Haunted Mansion Holiday are inspired by Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.

SKELETON CREW

Spirited display in Frontierland celebrates "D?a de los Muertos"

If you've never experienced "D?a de los Muertos" (English translation: "Day of the Dead"), you might be a little surprised by the traditional skeleton figurines, or "calacas," that are a common part of this age-old Latin American holiday. The celebration--which includes All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day (November 1 & 2)--dates back to the time of the Aztecs, and is intended to honor the dearly departed as well as celebrate the triumph of love over death.

This fall, Guests of Disneyland ? Park can enjoy a touch of this colorful holiday with a special display located at Zocalo Park in Frontierland. In addition to the life-sized calacas, you'll notice a special altar table and a small, festively decorated stage. The table is covered with beautiful flowers, miniature calacas, decorative sugar skulls and other items set out to "coax" the departed back to the realm of the living for a reunion of souls.

Be sure to stop by and add a little festive Latin American flair to your Fall/Halloween celebration at the Disneyland ? Resort!

Suite Dreams, Baby

Newborn takes detour through Disneyland ? Dream Suite on way home

When his family won a night in the Disneyland? Dream Suite, Grant Lock cried. Not because he was overcome with emotion at the thought of spending the night right in the heart of Disneyland? Park, mind you. Grant cried because he had just gotten out of the hospital--where he was born the day before. Allow us to explain:

On April 18, while Grant and his mother, Jaime Lock, were getting better acquainted in their hospital room, his father, Chris, and older brother Austen decided to spend a little father-son time at Disneyland ? Park before picking up the other half of their AP family. Little did they know that the Dream Squad was about to deliver some good news of their own-- the Lock family had won a night in the private suite located above Pirates of the Caribbean in New Orleans Square!

And while Grant may be too young to remember his first visit to The Place Where Dreams Come True, it will no doubt be a memory that the rest of his family will never, ever forget!

Mace's Place

Invitation leads to dream come true for one AP

When Wesley Mace registered his email address on the official Annual Passholder website, ap, he knew he would receive special communication and invitations from the Disneyland ? Resort. What he didn't know was that one of those invitations would turn out to be very special indeed. Wesley, as luck would have it, was chosen at random to enjoy an overnight visit to the Disneyland ? Dream Suite--simply for being a registered AP!

An experience this rare, this magical has to be shared--which is just what Wesley did. The rest of the Mace family, along with girlfriend Priscilla, joined him for an unforgettable night that included a stay in the Disneyland ? Dream Suite and an after-hours tour of Disneyland ? Park, but not surprisingly, very little sleep for the excited winners. "This was an added spark to the normal Disneyland ? experience," said Wesley the next day. And it's probably safe to say that this was also his most magical Disneyland ? experience in his 12 years as an AP.

Horsing Around

(And Around)

King Arthur Carrousel is saddled with a rich history

If you were lucky enough to be in attendance the day Disneyland? Park opened to an eager public, you may remember taking a spin on the King Arthur Carrousel, but you may not have realized that this classic attraction already had a storied past prior to that historic day.

One of the largest in the world, the carrousel originally featured a menagerie of exotic animals. But when Walt purchased the attraction for his new Park, he decided an all-horse look was more in keeping with the medieval theme he was going for. So the rest of the creatures were placed in storage, and the search was on for additional equine mounts to take their places. Eventually, Walt and his team were able to assemble a herd of 72 trusty steeds--procured from Sunnyside Park in Toronto and Wards Kiddyland on Coney Island--and the race was on!

First, Walt had all the "non-leaping" horses altered to a leaping position (for dramatic effect), then he had each of them painted in one of six colors: black, gray, chestnut, white, tan or amber. (All of them would be repainted white in 1975. And one lucky horse, Jingles, would be painted gold during the Park's 50th Anniversary Celebration-- only to be redecorated and rededicated again earlier this year in honor of Disney Legend Julie Andrews.) It's interesting to note that no two horses are identical, and some are more than 100 years old! It must be nice to age that gracefully!

Exciting Changes Ahead For

APs!

Soon, your Annual Passport, the AP website and, yes, even Backstage Pass will have a brand-new look. Stay

tuned for details!

High E.Q. (Environmentality Quotient)

Learning the "3 Rs" of Environmentality: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

As Walt Disney once said, "The natural resources of our vast continent are not inexhaustible. But if we use our riches wisely, if we will protect our wildlife and preserve our lakes and streams, these things will last us for generations to come." And for more than 60 years, the company that Walt founded has remained committed to conserving the planet's precious natural resources. At the Disneyland ? Resort, for example, eco-friendly technology is in evidence everywhere--from the emission-free subs of Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage* to the biodieselpowered steam trains chugging around Disneyland ? Park. Backstage, Cast Members recycle 92,000 pounds of cardboard each week! And that's in addition to the over 3,000,000 aluminum cans and plastic bottles they've recycled since April 2005, following the launch of a community involvement program.

The Horticulture team does their part--in a big way-- by recycling 1,176 tons of green plant and foliage waste material a year. And when they're not recycling, they're tending to the drought-tolerant trees and landscaping throughout the Resort.

You can do your part when visiting the Resort, too. Even simple things, like refilling your drinking water bottles--then recycling them when you're done--and taking only one or two napkins with your meal can make a big difference. It's also a great way to honor the man who gave us Disney magic. Come on, let's make Walt proud! Go to to learn more.

*Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage is inspired by Disney?Pixar's "Finding Nemo."
