FAMILY PROCEDURES /PROTOCOLS COVID-19 Drop-off and Pick-up ProceduresParents or guardians will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing when dropping off and picking up children.Drop-off and pick-up times will need to be staggered with families to eliminate groups of families waiting to drop off and pick-up. Families will need to adhere to assigned times to ensure that large groups are not entering at the same time. If there is an emergency and the time cannot be adhered to, parents will need to call the office to arrange a different time for that day.Drop off and pick up will be located at the front door of the building.There will be markings on the side walk to keep families 6 feet apart while waiting to drop off and pick up children or families may remain in their cars until their scheduled times.Only one parent or family member shall accompany their child to the screening procedure for drop off or pick up located outside in front of the building.Staff and children will be health screened before entering the facility in a private and respectful manner. The screening will consist of a few health questions and their temperature taken.To enter the program your child temperature must be below 100.0 degrees. The families will not be allowed to enter the facility past the screening area.Children cannot bring in back packs.Parents should bring a set of additional clothing. It will be placed in a Ziploc bag that we will provide at drop off. Lunch boxes or fabric lunch bags will not be allowed into the facility. Every staff & child will use the hand sanitizer before entering the facility and then wash their hands when they enter their classroom.A designated staff person from your child’s classroom, wearing a mask and gloves will escort your child to their classroom.At your scheduled pick-up time you will need to call when you arrive. A designated staff person from your child’s classroom, wearing a mask and gloves will bring your child to you at the pick-up area in front of the building.Tuition Payments:Parents are encouraged to make weekly tuition payments using “Tuition Express”.Payments will also be accepted upon arrival at the drop off area.Please put payments in an envelope and drop them into the drop box at the front of building only during drop off times.Masks:All staff will wear face masks when practical and practice appropriate social distancing protocol.Staff may wear additional PPE when needed (gloves, gowns or face shields).Children may wear masks if provided by their family. The staff will do their best to encourage the child not to remove the mask unless necessary, but we cannot guarantee to parents that the child will keep the mask on. It is unsafe for a mask to be placed on a child less than 2 years old.Parents will be responsible for washing their child’s mask daily. Illness:To protect and support the health and wellbeing of your child we ask that families please look over the “high risk”, or severe illness information and stay home if you have any of these high risk health concerns. We will also ask you to sign an “informed consent” letter that states you are aware of the high risk conditions prior to starting back in the program. We will be taking children’s temperatures 2 to 3 times throughout the day.If a child, a close contact of the child or any of our staff is not feeling well they must stay home.A doctor’s note allowing the child or staff member to return to school is required.If a child starts to feel sick or displays symptoms related to COVID-19 (see list below) at school they will be removed from the classroom and brought to the designated sick area where a staff person will monitor them until family member picks them up.The child’s teacher will contact the parent to inform them of the need to pick up.Sick children will need to be picked up immediately or within 30 minutes of a staff person contacting the parent. If we suspect that a child has COVID-19 we are required to report it to the Dept. of Public Health.If a child or staff member is diagnosed with or exposed to someone with COVID-19, staff and families will be informed and we will follow the steps deemed necessary by the CT Department of Public Health, Bristol-Burlington Health District and Office of Early Childhood. As a community, it is important that we work together to keep our children safe. If you or a member of your household exhibit symptoms of COVID-19, have tested positive for COVID-19, or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 and have been placed on isolation or quarantine, you must contact us so that we can be in touch with the local health department and determine the action steps that need to be taken. Your child will not be able to attend school for at least 14 days, even if they do not exhibit symptoms. Some of the symptoms of COVID-19 identified by the CDC include:CoughShortness of breath or difficulty breathingFeverChillsMuscle painSore throatNew loss of taste or smellOther less common symptoms have been reported, including gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.Coughing and Sneezing Protocols:“Stop the Spread” of the virus and other illnesses by practicing with your child the proper way to cover your mouth by using your elbow when you are coughing or sneezing.All staff must cover coughs and sneezes with tissue or the corner of the elbow. Staff must also encourage children, when appropriate, to cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or the corner of the elbow.All soiled tissues must be disposed immediately after each use. Handwashing or use of hand sanitizer must occur after the tissue is disposedHandwashing:Hand-washing?will occur frequently for both children and staff. Handwashing activities must be supervised by adults to verify that children are properly washing their hands for 20 seconds. Staff should make this fun and engaging for children by singing a handwashing song. Tooth Brushing:The children will not be brushing their teeth at this time.Cleaning Procedures:Staff will have adequate supplies in their classrooms.Staff or a family member will apply hand sanitizer for children (it will be stored out of reach of children) and tissues.High touch surfaces including tables, counters, doorknobs, and toys, etc. will be disinfected more frequently throughout the day. Items will be sanitized or disinfected using bleach and water solutions. Children’s cots will be sanitized after each use. Staff shall place any soft toy in provided laundry bag after it is used by a child.Nap Items:Cots shall be cleaned as they are stacked at the end of nap each day. No sheets, blankets or pillows will be allowed into the facility at this time.The center will provide a crib sheet for any child still in a crib and launder them after each child’s use or at least weekly.Cubbies and Personal Belongings:A change of clothes shall be provided by the parent and placed into a large Ziploc bag provided by the center upon entry.Each child’s belongings will be kept separated and in individually labeled cubbies in each classroom and taken home each day.All items shall be stored inside a child’s cubbyNap Time:No sheets, pillows, blankets, or soft toys from home will be allowed into the facilityWe will space out cots (head-to-toe positioning) to six feet apart if possible.Outdoor Play:We will be spending a majority of our classroom time outside in the fresh air. Our parking lot will be closed until further notice and will be utilized for outdoor classrooms.Groups sizes of 10 or less will be maintained while outdoorsGroups may not combine at any point during outdoor playSandboxes will remain closed.Classes will use provided individual outdoor materials. Materials such as balls, chalk etc. may not be shared between classes. Children’s buggies will be sanitized after usage.When the playground is used, classroom times will be staggered and it will be disinfected in between the groups’ usage.We may go for walks around the facility to let them get additional outdoor time.Please apply sunscreen prior to your child’s arrival and provide a labeled container of sunscreen for re-application in the afternoon. Staff will use gloves to apply sunscreen and change them in between children.Indoor Sensory Play:Group sensory tables will remain closedChildren will be provided with daily individual sensory play options such asPlaydough, gak, kinetic sand, etc.- should be divided and placed in baggies for use by individual children. Bags should be labeled with the child’s name.Finger paintWater play may be done in individual bins that are sanitized after useOther sensory toys for individual use will be sanitized after use (fidget toys, etc.)Most toys in the classroom will be shared only within that classroom group and sanitized at end of day or as needed.Museum Studios:The Museum Studios are closed for use by children until further notice. Social Distancing Strategies:Children:Classrooms will include the same groups of children and staff throughout the day and there will be no intermingling of groups and staff.There will be no field trips, inter-group events, extracurricular activities, museum lessons (unless done virtually).If possible, we will limit the number of children playing in one area during investigations. Children will be spaced apart while doing table activities and during meal time if possible.Children should be distanced to the extent possible during group time. When using a walking rope, combine two ropes and leave a handle in between each child. Assign children a designated space that will be used each time a walk occurs. Staff:Staff will wear face mask in classrooms at all times.Staff will practice a safe social distance between each other throughout the day in the classroom.Administrative staff will not enter classrooms unless there is an emergency.Staff will communicate with colleagues, parents, and administrative staff by phone, internet or zoom meetings.Meals/Snacks:Each child will bring lunch from home. All lunch items must be in disposable packages or baggies and will be placed into individual brown paper lunch bags upon arrival in the screening area. Bags will have child’s name.Starting on June 22nd, we will be providing breakfast and lunch through the Food Service Program in Bristol. A permission slip will need to be signed to participate in this program.Snacks and single use disposable utensils must be placed on individual plates for each child and handed directly to the child, if appropriate. Children may not help with any snack preparations including setting tables. Cooking will not be included in daily curriculum until further notice. ?Outside Visitors:We will restrict nonessential visitors, volunteers, and activities involving other groups from entering the building.The Museum Studios and communal areas will be closed and no one shall use these areasOutside visitors will be restricted from entering the center to the extent possible.The center will not conduct tours during this time. All tours will be done virtually. There will be no outside special services provided to children during this time unless proper protocol is implemented by these organizations (prior arrangements must be made with administration to maintain proper health and safety protocols if this is necessary).Communication:If you need to communicate with your child’s teacher during the day, you may call, email, or request to schedule a Zoom meeting with them. You may also call the school office for general questions.A variety of signage will be posted throughout the facility on how to: stop the spread, properly wash hands, promote everyday protective measures and properly wear a face coverings.Phone number will be posted at the door to call for pick-up or any other questions you may have. ................
