FROM THE

PASTOR

We are people of wheat and wine, water, and the word living and serving in God’s world.

To deepen our identity as Lutheran Christians and increase our understanding as to why Christ’s church we take a look at why Holy Communion exists. As the people of God we are people of wheat and wine, meaning, a community of faith that regularly joins together to partake of the mission meal of Holy Communion. This is who we are!

Known also as the Lord’s supper, the last supper, and the eucharist (thanksgiving meal), Holy Communion is a gift of grace from our Lord Jesus who invites each of us to dine with him!

By accepting Jesus’ invitation we remember what he has done, and does, for us. As the crucified and risen one, he lives. And because he lives we can face tomorrow.

Also, to partake of communion with Christ is to repent of not loving the Lord with our whole heart nor loving our neighbors as ourselves. It is a time we are given by Jesus to ‘fess up to him.

As well, in communion we receive in the bread and wine the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, forgiveness of our sins, new life, and salvation. What a banquet!

Finally, accepting Jesus’ invitation to come forward to the altar and dine with him gives us the opportunity to rededicate our lives to Jesus and be sent to do God’s work in God’s world.

Thank you community of St. Mark’s for being people of wheat and wine who continue the daily journey of walking in the footsteps of Jesus-for the sake of the world that God loves!

Pastor Will

A huge thank you for my gift certificates given to me on Rally Day. I have enjoyed being the Sunday School Superintendent for the past 13 years. The teachers we have now and in the past years have been so wonderful, which made my job a lot easier. I believe it is just time to step down from this job and let God lead me to another path in my life. The gift I received will be put to good use. Thank you and God bless all. Love, Joan Holland

The Lutheran World Relief Update: In 1983 a group of St. Mark’s women began making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. As the years went they included several other projects. Countless ladies and even a couple men have helped over the years. Several projects are no longer accepted by the countries. We still assemble the quilts, put together the school kits and assemble the baby care kits. We feel this is an important means of helping those in need, whether it’s in our own country or in the third world countries. Out totals from 1983 to present are: 6,148 quilts, 4,822 sweaters, 1,754 pounds of soap, 1,715 pounds of clothing, 995 school kits, 1,611 baby care kits, 138 health kits and 155 sewing kits. We hope we can continue to do these worthwhile projects for many years.
