Course Description This course provides knowledge and skills to maintain or change to the health status of an individual over time. This could include careers such as dental, dietetics, medical assistance, home health, nursing, pharmacy, respiratory, social work, nutritionist, Physician, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Veterinarian, Gerontology Service Providers, Medical Practice owner, Attorney for health care, and others. This class DOES cover graphic material!

$4.00 for BLS/CPR card

Late Work Policy- Late work will be accepted WITHIN 3 class days after you return from absence. I will not remind you!

Quizzes & Tests -1 quiz per week and at least 2 tests per quarter

Homework- May be assigned occasionally

Journal Articles- Presentations are due every week for 20 points. The Template can be found on my webpage. These will not be accepted late (except absences)!

MIDAS Articles- will be completed weekly in class.

Dresses for Success- Students have the opportunity to dress in scrubs EVERY Wednesday for a college and career readiness grade. No open toe shoes are accepted!!!

HOSA- Meetings will be Wednesdays after school 2:10-2:45 in room 2115. 1st meet and greet is August 13th after school. Please check my webpage for more info.

HOSA Fees are $25.00 **** Please make checks payable to Cane Ridge HOSA ****

Class Participation: Students are expected to be on time to classes; to participate in discussions and group projects; to be an active learner by listening, interacting, and asking questions; to participate in practicals and competency check-offs; to present a current event related to the health field to the class on occasion; and to represent Cane Ridge High School, themselves and this program with dignity and respect at all times.

Expectations:

1) Follow all school rules. (No cell phones during class, adhere to dress code, only water bottles in class, no sleeping or unruly behavior, etc.)

2) I will collect any cell phones being used during class and turn in accordance to school policy.

3) Be prepared for class with all necessary materials. (Books, papers, pencils, etc)

4) Treat everyone with respect and dignity, especially if talking about sensitive material.

5) Be on time and in class when the bell rings, or you will be counted tardy.

6) Respect other people’s things…if it’s not yours, don’t touch it.

7) Be courteous and respectful to guest speakers and EMS crew when they visit.

8) Have a great attitude at all times…no complaining! Ever! (
