Lorenz, Mary Jane Steeg

Mary Jane Steeg Lorenz, 88, died July 19, 2003 at her home in Nashville, IN. She was born July 28, 1914 in Indianapolis to Carl W. and Marie Howe Steeg. She married Frederick G. Lorenz, Jr. on February 17, 1940; he preceded her in death in December 2000. Her brother, Dr. Carl W. Steeg, Jr. also preceded her. Survivors include her daughters, Alice Lorenz, Nashville, Helen Holdeman and Linda Norton, Franklin; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter. She was a graduate of Shortridge High School and Indiana University. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Chapter P PEO Sisterhood, and founding member of Brown County Historical Society, Nashville Literary Club, Cedar Hills Homemakers Club, Nashville Christian Church Missionary Group, and Indianapolis Propylaeum. She was a 3rd generation life member of Central Christian Church, Indianapolis. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She and her husband, Fred, started Gnaw Bone Camp in 1943 and she remained active with the Camp for 60 years. A funeral service will be held at Lilly Peace Chapel in Crown Hill Mausoleum, Indianapolis, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, with calling from 10 a.m. until service.
