Dear Parents/Carers,

We are writing to you to make you aware of any learning your child can complete in the event of a school closure. As we are currently almost two terms through the academic year 2019/20, we want to ensure all children in Year 6 continue to build on their learning as they have done so well up to this stage of the year.

Priorities

The following learning can occur daily, as this will support children as much as possible within the parameters of the year 6 curriculum:

• CGP Books – Children should continue to use their CGP books to support their learning and to use self-assessment judgements to improve on areas of weaknesses.

• TES 15 + 1 – This programme contains a range of both arithmetic and reasoning problems, questions and SATS papers which will support the children to improve their maths skills. All answers can be found on this programme as well as YouTube tutorials to support any misconceptions.

As previously stated on a separate letter, to continue to develop their learning, children can:

• Access online programmes such as: Mathletics, Times Table Rockstars and Spelling Shed

• Continue to read their library books as well as additional books at home.

Additional websites

These websites can be used as extras to support learning:

• Master the Curriculum: free maths resources, booklets and activities linked to the maths curriculum. masterthecurriculum.co.uk (all premium resources now free).

• TTS Education have produced independent learning activity booklets for KS2. There are over 40 activities in each, covering all areas of the curriculum. tts-group.co.uk/home+learning+activities.html

• Classroom secrets have launched a children’s section, full of resources for independent learning at home.

• Classroom secrets have also launched year group specific downloadable packs which cover maths, GPS, Reading and practical ideas.

• White Rose Maths have free packages coming soon to support learning maths at home, linked to the curriculum.

• Literacy Shed Plus (reading, writing and some spag) are offering extended free trials for teachers to be able to set work for upcoming closures. Sign up for a free trial to access. If you have already signed up for a free trial in the past, email the team and they will extend / reinstate your free trial.

• The Maths Shed, same as above, sign up for a free trial. Online slides, printable and downloadable worksheets, fluency and reasoning covered.

• The Spelling Shed, same as above, sign up for a free trial. Email to extend or reinstate a free trial.

• Circle time fun, suitable for EYFS and KS1. Live streams and recordings of lessons and activities, including yoga, story time, sing along activities and wellbeing/PSHE activities.

• Class Hook, educational videos for use in all lessons. Clips from movies / TV to support learning. blog.2020/03/06/support-for-schools-impacted-by-coronavirus-covid-19/

• Twinkl have designed full home learning packs for each year group. Just type in ‘school closure packs’ in to the search bar. Twinkl is also offering ultimate package as a free trial if you type in the code UKTWINKLHELPS. Might be useful to send out to parents.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Year 6 Team
