Getting Started

This chapter explains how to get started using the cw_2005 style. If you are upgrading from the cw_2002 style, read the next section; otherwise, you can skip down to the section Quick Start & Reference on page 2.

1 Moving from CW_2002 to CW_2005

Any Companion Website using the style cw_2002 can be assigned the style cw_2005. If your site still uses cw_2002, you can change styles by selecting the new style using the Style Selector in the WPS Authoring environment.

Decide whether you want to keep the same banner and cover images that you used in cw_2002. If not, create new images. Photoshop templates for banners are available and can be downloaded from the Style Gallery, . New images can be saved as .jpg or .gif and should be named banner.jpg, banner.gif, cover.jpg or cover.gif.

Create the following directory in your volume-level media library and place the images in it:

/_skins_/D/default_blue/

You may decide to use an alternate skin. (See Skins on page 4 for more information.) If you do, create a directory based on that skin name and place the images in it:

/_skins_/capital-skin-initial/skinname/

Example

/_skins_/D/default_blue

N Volumes cannot be partially in cw_2002 and partially in cw_2005, so be sure to assign the style to your entire volume.

Nothing else needs to be done to move a volume from cw_2002 to cw_2005. Although few content changes should be needed, we recommend that you review your content in the new style and make any changes desired. If a site has been published in cw_2002, it should be tested by the content QA team in cw_2005 before it is launched.

1 About the Default CW_2005 Settings

Although cw_2005 has many options, if you have worked in cw_2002, you will probably find that working in cw_2005 seems very familiar. The default options for cw_2005 are designed to be as much like the default cw_2002 behavior as possible.

Three areas that you may notice as different when you first apply cw_2005 are:

1. A new design.

2. In sites without Parts the default navigation is a list of number links, rather than a pull-down menu. (You can request that this change for your content, see Style Attributes Manager (SAM) Standard Options on page 5 for more information.)

3. New and enhanced Web site features, as described in Chapter 3, CW_2005 Walk Through on page 6.

2 Quick Start & Reference

If you are new to the cw_2005 style or are migrating from another style, use this section to learn more about cw_2005.

1 Banner and Cover

Templates for banner images can be downloaded from the Style Gallery, . To replace banner and cover images, upload them to your media library at:

/_skins_/capital-skin-initial/skinname/

Example

/_skins_/D/default_blue

2 Replaceable Images

Templates for the Select Chapter replaceable image and for .CSS files can be downloaded from the Style Gallery, .

To replace .gif, .jpg, and .css files:

1. View the source of the rendered Web page to find the location of the file. For example, to change the Select Chapter image, you might view the source for the top navigation frame and find the following image tag.

4. Locate the portion of the path in this tag that comes after the number. In this example, the path is /_skins_/D/default_green/.

5. Verify that the path exists in your media library. If that path does not exist in your media library already, create it.

6. Name the new image the same as the image name from the image tag. In this example, the image name is select_chapter.gif.

7. Upload your new image to the specified path. In this example, the path is /_skins_/D/default_green/.

3 Style Attribute Manager (SAM)

To take advantage of SAM, consult Appendix C, Catalog of Options Available through SAM on page 26 to choose the options that you would like. Note that most options can be set at any level in the WPS tree of content. A division might request that an option apply to their entire division.

At the top of each content page in WPS you will find a link to select style attributes (SAM options). For more information on selecting style attributes, consult the WPS Authoring Help.

4 Replaceable Text

To replace text in cw_2005:

1. Consult Appendix B, Catalog of Replaceable Text on page 24 to find the file name that corresponds to the text you would like to replace.

8. Create a .txt file containing the new text and save it as the file name.

9. Create a directory called _text_ in your volume-level media library.

10. Upload the .txt file into that directory.

The default text files are also available for download from the Style Gallery, .

CW-2005 Features: An Overview

This chapter provides descriptions of the unique features of the cw_2005 style.

1 Replaceable Text

Style text can now be programmed as a replaceable element, just as images have been replaceable in the past.

1 How a WPS Site Developer can use Replaceable Text

The cw_2005 style allows users to replace text by uploading appropriately named text files to their volume’s media library. Consult the Appendix B, Catalog of Replaceable Text on page 24to find the file name that corresponds to the text you would like to replace and refer to Replaceable Text on page 3 to learn how to replace text in cw_2005.

2 Skins

Skins allow site developers to change the color and appearance of the without changes to style code by “packaging” alternative versions of text, images, and CSS files. While WPS users can upload replacement text, images, and CSS files to individual volumes, skins take that functionality a step further: Skins allow pre-set collections of replaceable text, replaceable images, and replaceable CSS files to be used for many volumes without having to upload the files into each volume.

1 How a WPS Site Developer can use Skins

Skins are one of the standard SAM options. WPS site developers can select any skin available from WPS. The following figure shows the available skin colors.

[pic]

3 Style Attributes Manager (SAM) Standard Options

The SAM standard options allow users to define simple aspects of a style, on an object-by-object basis. Because all of these options are built into the cw_2005 style, the effects are available on-demand, without development work.

1 How a WPS Site Developer can use SAM Standard Options

Instructions for using the Style Attributes Manager in WPS to change a style’s default behavior are available in the WPS Authoring Help. For details on how the cw_2005 style implements the configurable style attributes, see Chapter 3, CW_2005 Walk Through on page 6 and Appendix C, Catalog of Options Available through SAM on page 26.

4 Style Attributes Manager (SAM) Custom Options & Maps

SAM custom options and custom maps allow a user to enter information that will provide information that a style may need for custom functionality. For a list of custom options in cw_2005, refer to the WPS Authoring Help. cw_2005 does not currently use custom maps; however one of its substyles may.

1 How a WPS Site Developer can use SAM Custom Options & Maps

For details on the custom options offered by the cw_2005 style, see SAM Custom Options for cw_2005 on page 32.

CW_2005 Walk Through

This chapter provides a walk through of the style cw_2005.

1 Volumes

Each volume is the starting points for a Companion Website. It represents the site’s home page when completed site is rendered and launched.

1 What's New

• New design (volume-level and below)

• Replaceable introductory pull-down menu text

[pic]

• Choice between skins (volume-level and below)

[pic]

Check the Style Gallery periodically for new skins .

• Logout and Account Summary Buttons that appear in the top navigation frame when a user is logged into SMS. See SAM Custom Options for cw_2005 on page 32 for information on two custom options related to this.

• If there is a Book Title available, the style uses it as part of a Welcome message. The rest of the Welcome message is replaceable text. If there is no Book Title available the style uses the volume title as the heading.

[pic]

• The following SAM options for:

o Displaying a list of the components automatically placed on volume page

o Including a blurb of the part introductory text with each part listed on the volume page

o Providing choice of using Prefix + title, Prefix-only, or Title-only in list of components on volume page

o Making the banner image a link to any URL. When a user clicks the banner, a new window opens and displays the URL.

o Providing choice of using Prefix + title, Prefix-only, or Title-only in site navigation

o Providing choice of two site navigation methods

13 SAM Custom Options for cw_2005

The following table lists the custom options for the base style cw_2005. For options available in a substyle, consult the Style Gallery.

I The custom options for cw_2005 determine the behavior of the WPS object on which you set them and all its child objects (assuming no overrides at lower levels). In most cases, a custom option is set at the volume object and no other custom options are used elsewhere in the site. However, if you need to override or change a custom option at some deeper level of the site, you can.
