Look for it in the CT1 file. Read and create an original logo that matches the needs of the client. This is a real design job!You do not have to do an emblem design!Learning Goal: You will learn how to create an original line art from resource photographs or from original drawings. The student will use continuous line and rhythmic or patterned lines in a condensed space in their composition. The image will be converted to a vector image by using the Image Trace feature of Illustrator.Procedure: You will create a clean finished black and white pen/sharpie ORIGINAL drawing to scan. You will be making a line collage with very little space indicated. You will pick a theme that you want to use for your images or you can create a line drawing from your imagination such as a doodle. The images that you choose are to relate to some sort of theme or are connected to an event. One example of a theme could be music that you like. Another could be favorite things I like to do. A theme is broad. You can draw from your imagination or you can reference photographs from the internet. You will print images out and combine them using the light table. You can use your phone to find images for reference and draw through observation. You can use the doodle method to create your work also. Doodles are OK as long as they are original.Do not use people in your composition unless you are great at drawing. Sketch: Create your line art image first by sketching it out in pencil. You will sketch this out first in pencil and then using the light table, you will redraw it using a fine tip sharpie marker to create a clean line art drawing. (Please bring one to class to use).Combine images. You can include some handwritten text. Do not worry about shading as this is just a line art project. If you want to add patterns to some of your images you can.You will figure out where to place the images in your composition so that there is a focal point. Look up the definition if you do not know what this means. This could include some images that would be drawn larger than others. (Use of Hierarchy)Next build a background of lines or patterns that works with the images and connects them. You will use shallow space. I want you to break up your background image. Do not use just one color or one gradient.Images can overlap each other for a collage effect. You are creating a clean line drawing that will be scanned, traced and filled with flat color, gradients and line patterns.Final Line Drawing: Use a variety of line weights with the sharpie. This makes for a strong line drawing.Colors will be limited to 5 – 6. Create swatches to use for your colors first. You can change the opacity to get different values of the chosen colors. You can stack colors on top of each other also by adding or drawing shapes. When your final line art is done, you need to scan it (digitize your drawing). Then you will Image Trace it in Illustrator to create a vector image.Turn in your clean line art for grading after you scan it. Place your name on the back.Scanning Procedure:After you have a rough sketch, you will scan your work in Photoshop.Go to one of the computers that have a scanner attached and open Photoshop. Log in under your name.Next, place your image on the scanner. Open Photoshop first. (We scan through Photoshop) Go File/Import. Click the scanner and then click OK until you see the scanner program. Go to the link on the left (blue line) and make sure your resolution is on 300 ppi. This will help produce a better scan with better details. Click Preview. Move the 4 points so that it only scans the section of the drawing that you need. Click Scan and it should show up in Photoshop. Next, go to Image/Mode and convert your image to grayscale. Then go to Image/Adjustments and make sure you change the brightness/contrast so it has nice black lines and nice white areas.Use the eraser to erase any stray marks. Go to Image/Mode and then select RGB so that you will be able to add color.Open Illustrator and set up your file to be 8.5 x 11 inches. You are going to create a vector image by using Image/Trace. You will be changing your raster image to a vector image. Trace it so that you can add color to your image.Start with these settings and then tweek it to get the best scan: Use your book – 3-44 for reference on how to do the scan.Custom PresetMode: Color2 colors – put in right hand box – this traces it in only black and white shapes and linesClick Advanced option – use this option to fine tune your trace if needed. Move the sliders to see what happens.Create: Make sure check fill is checkedTrace and thenExpand your image. Use Direct select to fill closed spaces. You must add details to your image by using the pen tool that you have just learned about. If they do not fill, then you will use the Live Paint Option to fill or draw a shape and then play with the fill and stroke options. Now, using the information you have learned with tracing and filling, fill your line drawing with a limited palette of color to create a finished work. You will use both Live Paint if needed, the pen tool and the Direct Select tool to fill your shapes.Scale your image to fit to page. Turn in along with your reflection.Reflection: Copy and paste these questions into a WORD document. Place your answer under the question.Describe the theme behind your collage or drawing. What were you trying to communicate? Describe focal point and how you used it in your image. Describe what you did to create this finished illustration.Describe the strengths and weaknesses of your work.Examples of line art collages: Very intricate drawing ................
