Recent legislation has permitted the College to offer the following Flexible Spending Account (FSA) plan changes as outlined below. If you have questions or would like to make a FSA election change, please contact Mary Cote in Human Resources – mcote@bowdoin.edu or by calling (207) 725-3033.Dependent Care FSA Plan ChangesPlan year ending 12/31/2020:Remaining balances may be used for eligible expenses incurred throughout calendar year 2021.If you participated in the plan in 2020 and your dependent became ineligible due to age (your child turned age 13 in 2020), you may use any balance remaining from the 2020 plan year for otherwise eligible expenses incurred until the date your child turns age 14.Plan year ending 12/31/2021:Remaining balances may be used for eligible expenses incurred throughout calendar year 2022.Allow prospective election changes without a qualified change in status. This provision was also adopted by the College mid-year in 2020 and previously announced. This provision allows a participant to enroll new or make a change to an existing Dependent Care FSA with no qualified event. If you make a new election it will be effective the 1st of the month on or following the date you request the change. If you modify an existing election (increase or decrease) the eligible expenses can be incurred anytime in the calendar year.Medical FSA Plan ChangesPlan year ending 12/31/2020:All unused funds are available for use in 2021.Plan year ending 12/31/2021:All unused funds are available for use in 2022.Allow prospective election changes without a qualified change in status.
