Director: Kim McGehee

Preschool Phone: 455-9839

We welcome you and your child to Grow In Grace Preschool. Our preschool has several important goals. Our number one objective is to provide your child a safe, positive, loving environment for him/her to learn not only the readiness skills for kindergarten, but also the tremendous love that Jesus Christ has for each one of them. We promote learning in a fun and structured way, and provide opportunities for each child to discover his/her own unique abilities and develop a healthy self-esteem. We are concerned about the development of the whole child. The children will have activities that introduce colors, letters, and numbers, and learning experiences that develop key skills such as listening and following directions. Bible stories and related activities will be presented daily in order to communicate life lessons about God’s love and care for children. Cooperation and group sharing will be primary goals, and the games, free play, table time activities and group class time will encourage your child to develop social characteristics.

Please find enclosed in this handbook several important items; our Policies and Procedures Outline and our expectations for a great year. The yearly calendar identifies the regular holidays. Please put these dates on your calendar now.

In order to “train up a child in the way that he should go” (Proverbs 22:6) we recognize the importance of a strong parent-teacher relationship. Please feel free to call the church at anytime or call us at home after preschool hours (455-9839/461-9594)

Thank you for becoming a part of this ministry. We believe in children, and our primary concern is for your child’s welfare and education in light of God’s love.

Sincerely,

Kim McGehee, Director

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE

• Hours are from 9:00 - 11:50.

• The drive-through will not open until 9:00 and remain open until 9:15. After 9:15 parents will need to walk your child to the classroom.

• Children will be waiting under the breezeway for pick-up at 11:50. Please remember that because we meet less than three hours a day we are not required to be licensed. Therefore, it is very important that you be on time to pick up your child. A late fee of $1 will be assessed for each five minutes a child is here after 12:10.

• Children may only be picked up by the adults that are indicated on our pick-up form. If someone else will be picking your child up please send a note with the child that day.

• Place the car tag provided for you in you car window so that it is clearly visible

TUITION

• Tuition is due the first day of each month and considered late after noon on the first Thursday of the month. Tuition fees are the same amount each month for the ten months of preschool. Tuition not paid by noon on Thursday will result in a $10 late fee – no exceptions.

• Tuition is due even if your child misses days, weeks or a month(s).

• Make checks payable to Grow In Grace Preschool. A $40 returned check fee will be charged for any checks returned for insufficient funds, and you will be asked to pay tuition in cash for the remainder of the school year.

• Statements will be issued each month after tuition is paid.

• If your tuition will need to be paid late, please discuss this with the director. The late fee will be added each month that it is received late. Tuition being late should be the exception rather than the rule. Tuition that is one month or more past due may result in the dismissal of your child from preschool, unless arrangements have been made with the director for late payment.

ATTENDANCE

• All registered children are expected to attend each scheduled class day. We realize there are times when your child cannot attend; however, full tuition for that month is due. We ask that you let us know ahead of time, if possible, when absence is for travel, doctor’s appointment, etc. will be necessary.

WITHDRAWAL FROM PRESCHOOL

• Any student withdrawing from Grow In Grace Preschool during the school year must give a notice as much in advance as possible. Tuition for the month following withdrawal will still be due. This allows us time to fill the vacancy, and continue to pay our teachers.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

• In the event of inclement weather, we will follow Tullahoma City School procedures. Meaning, if TCS are closed, so is Grow In Grace. However, if the weather is bad there may be times when Grow In Grace is out even if TCS are not. School closings will be announced on WSMV Channel 4. You may also call the church office for closings.

BIRTHDAYS

• You may provide a party to celebrate your child's birthday by providing special refreshments, etc. for the class during the regularly scheduled snack time.

• Contact the teacher at least one week in advance so notes can be sent home telling other parents not to send snacks on that day.

• Only send snacks appropriate for that age child.

• Do not give balloons as favors and do not decorate with latex balloons. They are a chocking hazard.

HEALTH

• Do not send sick children to preschool.

• Children should be free of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to preschool.

• Contact the teacher if your child has exposed the class to an illness.

• If your child becomes ill while at preschool we will call you to pick them up immediately.

• Please make sure your child is current on all his/her immunizations.

CURRICULUM

• The Grow In Grace staff works with the children on age appropriate basic skills and uses activities to build on these skills.

• Music is included everyday as a part of our curriculum.

• Outdoor playtime is included each day, weather permitting.

• Field trips are planned for the three and four year old classes, and visitors from the community are utilized throughout the year. Three and four year old students need to have a booster seat to send to school on field trip days. Their name should be on the seat and visible from the front.

• Children enjoy play-doh, painting, cutting, pasting, nursery rhymes and Bible stories along with free unstructured play. Emphasis is placed on development of social skills as well as academic skills.

• Children enjoy physical education, chapel, pre-writing, pre-reading, phonics, math, and science skills. Emphasis is placed on learning while having fun.

• Progress reports are sent home twice a year for ages 2 - 4. This is in no way meant to compare children, but to point out their progress as the teacher has observed them throughout the year. Individual conferences are available at the request of the parent.

DISCIPLINE

Our discipline policy is as follows:

Positive Reinforcement:

• Positive reinforcement is praising a child for good behavior as a way to encourage him/her to continue on with that behavior. We also use redirection of a child’s attention whenever possible to modify behavior. These types of discipline are used as a means of helping children to develop self-control and positive feelings about themselves. If there are continual behavioral problems with your child, you may be asked to attend a parent-teacher conference in order to communicate to you the problems we are having, and to get input from you about how you deal with similar problems at home.

Time Out:

• Time out removes the child from the group as a way for him/her to calm down and have time to think about the situation. The amount of the time spent in Time Out is always based on age, with the maximum being one minute per year of age. Example: 4 years, 4 minutes.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

• Class parties are a great way for parents to get involved. The parties we have are: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's, Easter, and End of Year. Room mothers are chosen from moms who complete the volunteer form at the beginning of the school year. Parents will be asked by the room mother to provide refreshments, favors, etc. for the parties.

• Parents are asked to assist with field trips during the year. We are requesting that each child have a booster seat for field trips. These seats make traveling on the church bus easier.

• Parents are welcome and encouraged to share with our group on any subject we are studying. Please refer to the monthly calendar for our study topics.

• Parents are invited to visit at any time.

• Parents will be asked to furnish various items such as wipes, crayons, watercolors, etc. that their children will be using.

• Parents are encouraged to discuss with their child what they learned each day. This helps reinforce the day’s subject matter. Use the monthly calendar that is sent home each month to keep informed of the study topics and encourage participation in the “special days” planned throughout the year.

GENERAL POLICIES

• Three and four year old children need to bring a snack and drink to school each day. Please no glass containers or carbonated drinks.

• Send diapers/pull-ups and wipes for children that are not potty trained.

• Send a change of clothes to be kept at school in case of accidents.

• Label all belongings, including lunch boxes.

• Send hats and coats in the winter, as most days we will play outdoors.

• Children must wear shoes (flip-flops are not encouraged). We prefer tennis shoes and not boots because there will be days we play in the gym and boots are not allowed.

• Do not let children wear clothes that cannot get dirty. The children play outdoors, and enjoy art projects that are hard on good clothes.

• Children should not bring toy guns, knives, swords, money, or gum with them.

• Toys may not be brought unless requested by the teacher. This includes stuffed animals, baby blankets, pacifiers, etc. (excludes one and two year olds).

• Students are not to bring cell phones to preschool.

HOLIDAYS

We follow basically the same calendar as the Tullahoma City School system. We take Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Holidays, Easter Holidays, and other Public school planning days. There may be a few deviations. The dates are listed in the back of this handbook and will be on the monthly calendars.
