Shelby County General Election and State/Federal Primary and Memphis Special Election

All Voters will Receive the General Election Ballot for their Districts. Voters may choose to receive either the Republican or the Democratic Primary ballot in addtion to the General Election Ballot. All races will include a write-in line but only the votes for certified write-in candidates will be counted. Races that are shaded in grey will only

appear on the ballot that corresponds with those districts. Early voting locations will have sample ballot notebooks that correspond with each district so you can see your exact ballot before you vote. Your registration address determines which races and candidates appear on you ballot. Find your districts at:



Primary Election Ballot

Your primary election ballot will contain six or seven races depending upon where you live. All ballots will have the race for Governor and US Senate. All ballots will have the correct district for the US House of Representatives, the Tennessee House of Representatives, the State Executive Committeeman and the State Executive

Committeewoman. Voters who live in Tennessee Senate District 29, 31, and 33 will have the correct race for their district on their ballots. Voters who live in Tennessee Senate District 30 and 32 will not see a Tennessee Senate race on their ballots since those districts will not be on the ballot until 2020.

This race will only appear on the ballots for precinct splits that are in Super District 9.

The proposed Charter amendment would change the County Charter to have the salaries of the County Mayor, Sheriff, Assessor, Clerk, Register, and Trustee governed by state law. Tennessee Code Annotated Section 8- 24-102 provides for minimum salaries to be based on population. This same law provides that any annual increase would be based on the percentage increase given to state employees. Currently, only the board of County Commissioners sets salaries. Shall the Shelby County Charter be amended to read as follows: Section 3.04. - County mayor - Term, qualifications, compensation. The county mayor shall be elected each four years, commencing with the August 1986 general election, and shall take office on September 1 following his election. He shall be 18 years of age or older, a resident of Shelby County at least one year prior to filing for this office at the time of his election and during his term of office. Effective September 1, 2018, the county mayor's salary shall be set based upon Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-24- 102, as may be from time to time amended by the Tennessee State General Assembly, and shall be adjusted annually based on the statutory requirements. The salary of the County Mayor may be changed from time to time by Ordinance of the County Commission; provided, however, that no change in salary by the Board of County Commissioners shall take place during the term for which the County Mayor was elected and may not be set lower than the amount called for by Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-24- 102. Section 8.11. - Compensation. Effective September 1, 2018, the compensation of all county Charter officers shall be set based upon Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-24-102, as may be from time to time amended by the Tennessee State General Assembly, and shall be adjusted annually based on the statutory requirements. The compensation of all county Charter officers may be changed from time to time by Ordinance of the Board of County Commissioners, as provided for in Article II, Section 2.06C(3) (e), herein for increases in salary. No change in compensation by the Board of County Commissioners shall take place during the term for which the county Charter officers were elected and may not be set lower than the amount called for by Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-24- 102. So that state law will govern the salaries of the mayor and the elected Charter officers?
