Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

FOUNDER’ DAY! – This past Thursday, we celebrated Founders’ Day. Every year across the country, local PTA’s celebrate the founding of the National PTA. This year it was our honor to host the celebration at MAC. If you were not there, you missed an incredible night. The highlight was a performance that showcased the combined talents of our student organizations. The theme for the night was “Tradition: Founded in the Past, Working in the Present, Supporting the Future”. What started as a courageous movement to support our children, continues today, and supports the future of education for all children. PTA does so much to support our schools. If you have seen the beautiful signs at our campus entrances, we have them thanks to our PTA. Just one of many projects they have brought to MAC.

I want to thank all of our awesome Brahmas. To our Band, Orchestra, PFC, Brahmadoras, Theater, Grupo Folklorico Magnifico who worked together to create a beautiful performance. Thanks also to our Mac Electrical for the beautiful lights they installed, and to our Brahmadoras, NHS, Student Council, and JROTC for greeting and ushering. Kudos to Vaneza Plumas for her winning design for the program cover. Thanks also to all of the sponsors and Assistant Principal Kelli Johnson for coordinating with PTA. Special thanks to our PTSA President Liz Wayne, and Belle Watson, Chair for this year’s Founders’ Day. MAC also was the first campus to live stream the event. None of this would have been possible without the dedication, and selfless dedication of everyone involved. It was a great example of the unity and spirit of the MAC campus. Go Brahmas!

Here is all the news for the week:

ANNOUNCEMENTS-

EARLY RELEASE THIS FRIDAY – This Friday is an early release day for NEISD High Schools. School will be dismissed at 2:15 pm. The buses will be running at that time. We ask that all students be off campus by 3 pm unless they are in an activity. Please make sure you make arrangements for your child to get home if they do not ride the bus. The Bell Schedule for Friday is attached for your convenience.

MAC CHEER AND DANCE – Cheer and Dance Tryouts are right around the corner. Current 8th through 11th graders can try out for Cheerleader and JV Lassie Dance Team. Current 9th through 11th graders can try out for the Brahmadoras Varsity Dance. There will be a mandatory candidate and parent meeting in the MAC cafeteria on Monday March 4th at 6:30 pm. For complete information, please see the attached flyer. Go Brahma Spirit!

2019-2020 PALS Application Process - Calling all juniors and seniors for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.  PALS (Peer Assistance, Leadership & Service) applications will be available beginning Wednesday February 6th in Mr. Schwartz’s room (D253).  Completed applications are due to the main office no later than 4:30 pm next Wednesday February 20th. Interviews will take place February 27th, 28th and March 1st.  Students applying to PALS must be able to attend our mandatory PALS retreat/training, which takes place July 29th and 30th. For more information about the PALS program, please go to:

Please contact Mr. Schwartz at cschwa@ with any questions.

SCHOOL BUS RIDERS - Please be aware, there is a “School Bus Transportation Guideline” that all NEISD schools must follow.  For this reason, and the safety of all our students, we cannot allow students to randomly ride a different school bus to a friend or relative’s house.  If there is an emergency, we must have a written note signed by parent or guardian, explaining the reason for the request. Written requests must be turned in to the Main Office as soon as possible, as we must still call to confirm that it is a valid request. Processing can take some time, so it cannot be done at the bus circle during afternoon departure.  When emergencies do come up, we will try our best to assist. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

CLEAR BACKPACKS - All students are still required to carry clear backpacks. In spite of rumors to the contrary, this has not changed. Students are still required to carry only CLEAR BACKPACKS. Non-clear backpacks are subject to being confiscated. It is very important that you remind your child of this requirement.

MAC SENIORS -

Please contact the Senior Class Sponsors, April Moyer (amoyer@) or Spencer Cox (scox5@) if you have questions about Senior Events.

MAC YEARBOOK - The yearbook is a great way for your teen to remember this year’s events at Mac. As a parent, you know the importance of remembering your teen years and all of the people and events that made that time special. Buy online with a credit card, debit card or PayPal at . Also, parents of the class of 2019- we know how proud you are of your teen's accomplishments. Tell them how great they are by purchasing a senior ad in the yearbook. Ads are available in a variety of sizes and prices. Start creating yours at

ACTIVITIES -

MAC GIRLS’ BASKETBALL – This past Tuesday our Lady Brahmas closed out district play against Madison. It was a tough game for both teams. Madison took an early lead, but the Brahmas came back and by the half trailed 24 to 29. In the 3rd quarter our Lady Brahmas went on a 23 to 10 scoring spree and at the start of the 4th quarter, they had a 47 to 39 lead over Madison. The 4th quarter was a back and forth battle that went down to the wire. Our Brahmas managed to tie the game at 49 when the Lady Mavs took a 51 to 49 lead. The Brahmas made a final drive but they came up short in a 2-point loss to Madison.

Our Lady Brahmas finished district with a 10 and 4 record and 2nd place. This week our Lady Brahmas will go into bi-district playoff on Tuesday at 7 pm, against O’Connor at BAC. Let’s get out and support our Lady Brahmas as they make their playoff run. Go Lady Brahma Basketball!

MAC BOYS’ BASKETBALL – This past Wednesday our Brahmas returned to BAC to take on Madison. Our Brahmas had a slow start and trailed the Mavs in the first half. In the second half, our Brahmas came back and tried to even the score. Unfortunately, it would not be enough, as the Brahmas took the loss to Madison.

On Friday, our Brahmas traveled back to BAC to take on the Reagan Rattlers. In their first meeting, the Brahmas took a close loss, and they were looking to even the score. The Brahmas kept pace with the rattlers, and at the end of the first half, they trailed by 5-points. The Brahmas came out shooting in the second half and outscored Reagan 17 to 14 in the half. It came down to a few baskets in the final quarter but, in spite of their hard play, the Brahmas took a 2-point loss.

This week the Brahmas will close out district at MAC at 7 pm on Tuesday against Lee. You want to come and support the Brahmas and have a chance to be in the Halftime Canes’ basket shoot out. Go Brahma Basketball!

MAC GIRLS’ SOCCER – This past Monday, our Lady Brahmas were back at BAC taking on Johnson. Our Brahmas put up a good fight, but were down 0 to 2 at the end of the first half. Our Brahmas mounted an early attack and scored early in the second half. Unfortunately, it would not be enough, as our Brahmas took the loss to Johnson.

On Friday out Lady Brahmas were back at BAC to face off with Churchill. Our Lady Brahmas played hard once again, but were down by 2 at the half. They came back in the second half to score early and cut the margin to 1-point. At the final whistle, the Brahmas took the loss to Churchill.

Our Lady Brahmas are now 1-2-1 in district. This week they will be at BAC West on Tuesday at 7 pm to take on Madison. Then on Friday, they will be at BAC East at 5 pm to take on Reagan.

Please come on out and support our Lady Brahmas as they continue their district run. Go Lady Brahma Soccer!

MAC BOYS’ SOCCER – This past Monday our Brahmas returned to BAC to go up against Johnson. The Brahmas put up a good fight. They had several shots on goal, but were unable to get into the net. Isaac Navarro played the full 80 minutes at goal, and had 9 saves, but it would not be enough, as the Brahmas took the loss to Johnson.

On Friday, our Brahmas returned to BAC to go up against Churchill. Once again, our Brahmas played hard and gave it their best effort. They had several shots on goal, but could not get the ball in the net. Once again, Isaac Navarro played the full 80 minutes at goal and had two saves, as the Brahmas took a 2-point loss to Churchill.

The Brahmas are now 1-2-1 in district. This week the Brahmas continue district play on Tuesday at 5 pm when they will be at BAC West to take on Madison. Then on Friday at 7 pm, they will be at BAC East to go head to head with Reagan. Come on out and support our Brahmas as they continue their district run. Go Brahma Soccer!

MAC WRESTLING - Mac wrestling was at Madison HS last week competing in the district tournament. Wrestling unlike the other sports has 10 schools in our district and the top 4 finishers move on with the 5th place finisher moving on as an alternate. While some seasons ended, some of our talented wrestlers will move on to the regional tournament next weekend.

Our lone female wrestler and only in her second year Dakota Drew placed third and will be moving on to the region tournament next week.

Varsity boys Individual results are as follows:

At 106 Ethan Huerta placed 4th and is moving on to region. Not bad for a freshman.

At 113 Noah Sanchez showed a lot of grit and finished 4th to move on to region. Also a freshman.

At 120 Gibi Gamez wrestled great to finish 1st. Moving on to region.

At 126 Jack Huerta was in a tough bracket and finished 5th to move on as an alternate.

At 132 Xavier Sanchez also in a tough bracket finishes 5th to move on as an alternate.

At 152 Shawn Jarrett-Izzi only loss was in the finals and finished 2nd. Moving on to region.

At 195 Baryn Carter wrestled hard to finish 5th and will move on as an alternate.

At 220 Eric Molbe faced some tough competition and finished 6th.

With almost all Mac Wrestlers moving on to region, it was a good tournament for Mac Wrestling. They will be back in action this weekend at the region tournament at Blossom Athletic Center this Friday and Saturday, fighting for a chance to make it to the State Tournament. Go Brahma Wrestling!
