Comments: Chevy pick-up trucks from this time period are popular and collectible, especially the short bed Fleetside model such as this one. This truck has been restored and updated with modifications made for comfort and drivability.

Body, Paint and Exterior: The body on the truck is straight, with no dents or issues. The rear bumper has been removed and the panel filled under the tail gate for a smooth look and the body work was well done. There is filler in the body in the left door, which is beginning to crack and behind the right rear wheel. The body work was well done. All panel gaps and alignment are good but the left door must be closed hard to latch properly.

The truck was refinished in a burnt orange and tan paint scheme, which shows well. There are some small nicks and scratches in the paint, along with a small touch up around the left rear wheel and a small circle type blemish in front of the left mirror. There are some areas, which look like solvent popping, on the top of the hood and roof but nothing major.

The painted original style mesh grille is intact but there are some small dents and paint chips. The painted front bumper is straight, with no dents but there is some chipped paint and a black scuff mark of some kind. The trim and emblems are all in place and in good condition. The glass, door seals and weather stripping are also in very good condition. The chrome is somewhat thin on the door handles, along with some scratches. The light assemblies and lenses look good but there is some discoloration in the parking light bezels and the fit on the right rear tail light surround could be better.

Wheels and Tires: The original 15 inch wheels have been replaced by aftermarket Ridler chromed alloy type, 17 inch in the front and 18 inch in the rear. The wheels and caps are in very good condition with no scuffs or damage. The date codes indicate that the Toyo radial tires were made in 2017 and they are also in very good condition.

Engine and Engine Compartment: The engine is a 350 C.I. “small block” Chevy V8, which runs very well, with no smoke or abnormal knocks or noises. The engine is outfitted with a number of aftermarket parts to enhance its appearance. This includes aluminum ribbed valve covers, matching air cleaner, chrome alternator, fuel pump, power steering pump and all pulleys.

A new Holley carburetor has just been installed and the engine runs like it has a performance oriented camshaft. There is an aluminum water pump and HEI style ignition system. The engine is also equipped with exhaust headers. An aluminum radiator has been installed, along with an aluminum overflow tank.

The wiring and harnesses look okay but the look of the wiring and routing could have been done better for the aftermarket A/C system. The engine and engine compartment paint look good and there are no major oil or fluid leaks.

Interior: The interior has been restored with many added modifications. The original bench seat has been replaced with aftermarket Procar bucket seats and aftermarket center console. The seats have no tears or split seams but the right seat has, what looks like, black glue or adhesive on the cushion. The console looks fine but the vinyl covering is coming loose along some of the edges.

The original type metal panels have been retained and repainted in the tan and burnt orange exterior colors. New carpeting has been installed and it fits reasonable well but is somewhat dirty, especially on the drivers side. Carpeting has also been installed behind the seats, covering the gas tank. Non-original chrome diamond plate sill plates have been added to the door entry and they look good. A new headliner has been installed and it looks fine, with just some small wrinkles and sags.

The metal instrument panel has been repainted and the original gauges replaced with a full cluster of aftermarket Dolphin white faced analog style, with a polished surround. That same style polished plate is mounted on the glove box door. The door opens and closes but there is no storage box. A wood veneer wooden panel has been installed on the center of the instrument panel and it houses a set of aftermarket rocker switches. Chrome HVAC vents have been built in to the instrument panel.

A Pioneer AM/FM radio with a CD player has been installed, along with new speakers built in to the center console and door panels. A new chrome plated tilt steering column replaces the original, along with an aftermarket steering wheel.

Cargo Area: The pick-up bed has been replaced with new varnished wood, with stainless steel slats and they look very good. The pick-up bed sides and tail gate have scratches and chipped paint but nothing major. There are also a couple of small dents on the top of the wheel wells. The tailgate is straight with no dents and chrome latches have been installed.

Driveline: The original transmission has been replaced by what looks like a 700R4 automatic. This is a popular swap due to its overdrive gear. The driveshaft looks fine and the rear axle appears to be original or of the original type. There is a minor lube leak at the differential cover.

Suspension, Steering and Brakes: The front suspension retains the original type coil springs, which may be sagging a bit because there are aftermarket aluminum blocks installed between the coils. The rear is also the original type coil springs with trailing arms.

The original front drum brakes have been updated with front GM style power disc type and retaining the as built drum type in the rear. Visually all components and lines appear to be in good condition.

The steering system looks like it has had some work done, with components replaced or repaired as needed.

Undercarriage: From what I could see, the frame and cross members look solid, with no damage or corrosion issues. The floor pans and underbody also look very solid. There is some surface rust on various components, which is typical for vehicle which is used and driven. The undercarriage is somewhat dirty and the paint shows some wear but again typical for a driver

The dual exhaust system looks solid, with no leaks or rust problems and the aftermarket flat tips look very good. The aftermarket mufflers also sound good.

Summary: As mentioned above, pick-up trucks from this time period are very popular and collectible. The Chevy trucks from 1964 through 1972 are at the top of the list.

This is solid straight truck and although it has some cosmetic issues, both inside and out, it still shows well. The restoration work and modifications done on the truck seem to be well done with quality parts used. The truck is not high tech but it looks good and seems to be mechanically sound.

A great truck to drive and enjoy.
